Prevented a disaster today
Well, not as much as it sounds, but im wondering what COULD have happened- i was at the dealer for the girls car and picked up some plugs while we were waiting, i told him 01 max, he billed them out and gave 'em to me. I was just gonna leave when i saw the box said PLR5A-11 or something, and i coulda sworn remembering the 3.0 stock plugs were pfr5g-11. asked him again and he was like, oh **** man i looked them up for an 02, i dont think their different though, its only 1 model year difference. he gets the box for the 01 listing and sure enough, pfr5g11 and the first ones were definietly longer! are they bad enough where, if i hadnt noticed and installed them they woulda hit and ruined the pistons and probly valvetrain? or they not that long?
Again everythings fine but do you think i would have had an easy claim for a re-build against the dealer or would i be screwed since i am doing plugs myself? One reason i'm asking is because at autozone a guy asked for a water pump for an 89 ford f150 and by accident we gave him one for a 94, which wont work and it broke apart and chewed up parts of the valvetrain. he didnt remember the sale but had the reciept, and claimed it was our fault for selling the wrong part and autozone is paying for a new engine installed.

Yeah, it's a good thing you caught that. The plugs are definitely different. I'm not sure about the claim you may have against the dealer for giving you the wrong ones, but I'm sure you would have noticed right away once you pulled the old ones out. It's an honest mistake. That's why I always make sure exactly whenever I'm buying parts from the dealer that they are exactly what I'm looking for (knowing the part# before I purchase it). It's a habit. Good looking out. Glad it worked out for ya!

Good catch, no matter where you buy you should always compare the part before it is installed. There are times that parts come miss boxed from the factorys (OE and Aftermarket), and the counter people are only human.
