I would swap coil packs with another cylinder(if you are able to get the codes reread) Also there is a thread on here about how to check a coil pack to see if it is bad(I read it the other day) . Hope this helps

Just Installed UR Underdrive PUlley, What should I do next?

Ok so I just installed Ur's underdrive pulley but I'm just not sure what to mod next. I have a $350 budget and I can't decide whether to get ws y-pipe or mr catback. I know cattman's y-pipe and catback is way better but im unemp and money doesn't grow on trees. So far I've got a stillen popcharger, with 1 of knightyyz's midpipes, a mr fstb, and ur pulley. I want something for the exhaust, headers are out of the question, any suggestions?

You're unemployeed and want to waste money putting a mod on your car? I guess people have different priorities, but oh well. I would go for the Y Pipe my ownself.

Well, you would think differently if your hard earned tax dollars were feeding the lazy pigs that this country is breeding these days. Carry on....

Technically you could...but i wouldnt. I would wait it out till you got an empty tank then fill her up and maybe even throw down a bottle of system cleaner, that way everything will be good to go. But welcome to the org hope you enjoy that car you got!!

Premium is NOT required. FWIW, I've been using 87 and occasionally 89 octane for 7 years without a single problem.

It is not that there is a problem using 87 or 89 and it will not hurt the car, the fact is our cars run a lot better when using 93. you can certainly feel the difference

Running on 87 or 89 is fine for daily driving. The only thing is, don't go pounding on the car. Running on lower octane fuel causes the car to retard ignition timing to prevent knocking and detonation.

Trying to do any mods or hot-rodding of the car could cause some serious issues in the long run if you run anything less than 91.

But if she's just your DD, by all means, have at it. Just make sure to use some injector cleaner every few thousand miles.

Welcome to the org, btw.

It all depends on the mileage of the car and how well it has been maintained.

Honestly, you'll probably see about 25-30 WHP gain. A lot more if you get a piggyback or engine management system and a tune.

Don't get the Injen intake, by the way. Go with a Berk or a custom short ram intake. The Injen is the biggest waste of money mod for our cars.

Do you have a link to the short ram intake? Also what system can you get to piggy back or tune the car? I looked on JWT site and didnt see anything for a 2000

Does he have the dyno sheets to prove it? No member here has ever achieved more than 1-1.5 FWHP out of an Injen. After all the notorious tests that have been run on intake systems for our cars, the Ghetto Air Box mod has shown the most gains.

Seeing as how the Injen is nestled right in between the radiator and the exhaust manifolds, I don't see how all that heat soak can be beneficial.

Our cars don't even pick up that much horsepower to the crank with an intake.

I don't have any links offhand, but I'm pretty positive Berk has a site. CosmoRacing.com also offers a basic short ram for our cars for $65. You'll just have to get a new filter for it. The filter they include is garbage.

As far as tuners, JWT doesn't really have anything for our cars. For a 5.5, your best bet would be an APEX'i SAFC-II or VAFC-II. APEX'i's newest model, the Neo seems pretty decent, too.

Edit: Oh wait. You have a 2000. You can run an Emanage Ultimate or Blue as well.

Several members have also had decent success with UTEC's TurboXS system.

i heard piggy backing is a minor thing, where as sending ur ecu to technosquare to be reflashed is by far the best way to go. ive been debating on doing that but im tink about jwt cams first. hmmmmmm

Well, piggy backing is a major thing if you plan on doing more than simple bolt-ons. Even running headers on our VQs makes our cars need a decent retune. Granted, you can drive on the headers without one, but the car will run pig rich and cause damage over time.

If you're planning on running JWT cams, you're going to need more than a TS reflash.

Besides, for $500, you can buy an Emanage Ultimate and do all your tuning yourself versus sending the ECU off to TS and having them plug it into a computer.

You'd be better off not getting the Kinetix unless you're going forced induction. If you're NA, you'd be better off doing the 350z intake manifold conversion with 350z VTC maps.

The Kinetix isn't even properly port matched, which means turbulence, which means loss of intake pressure.

The gains don't justify the $700 price tag.

Emanage isn't exactly user friendly, but it's fairly easy to learn how to use it once it's been installed and set up. Although the EU doesn't seem to want to play nice with a 5.5 ECU.

I'm speaking from the various threads around the forum that I've read and from talking to members who have used both the Kinetix intake as well as the Emanage. If you want info on the EU, MoncefA33 and various others can help you out.

As far as the Kinetix intake, talk to sparks03max.

There are quite a few threads on the EU in the All Motor forum.

so i just got my 2000 gle inspected..it failed. they said the rear struts need replaced because they are leaking fluid and i need to replace the boots too. and the centre brake light is out. estimate: $655 . any good places for oem struts? and also, what kind of bulbs go in the centre rear light?

just sucks a lot because i just got this car, and have been running around trying to get the title transferred and everything. i didn't have my nc license yet and had to wait for that to show up. then i ended up with the '3 day pass' to drive until i get it inspected because in north carolina i guess it has to be within 90 days of getting a new registration. i have until 4/1 to have it inspected and go back to the dmv so i can get my new plates, which is looking doubtful. anybody in north carolina know what happens if i don't go back on the 1st? will i have to pay the $150+ to re-register my car?

Those are 2 relatively simple repairs and the estimate sounds a little to high to me. You can find OEM replacement rear shocks almost at every auto part store. I've got my KYB GR-2 from Amazon. They had the best price at the time ($50 something), but if you have until tomorrow that's not gonna work for you.
The rear stop light bulb can be found even at walmart and it's a simple replacement. If you can follow directions it's on in your owner's manual (I think it involves pushing the housing back and then up to disengage it). Otherwise, you might want to enlist the help of a friend or relative with a little more experience with cars, if you don't want to get screwd big time.

i'm familiar with cars, i just didn't know what kind of bulb it was. i have to go to work soon and then work a double tomorrow. i probably won't even be able to get to the bulb til friday. i'll check at the local napa about how much and how soon they can get struts here. and i thought the estimate was high too, i'm probably going to take it to another shop to see what they think.

Maxima 03 SE 6 speed. Gen. 5.5, VQ35DE

Just joined and pretty much a newb. Hoping to get some help with a couple things. I've had maxx for around nine months now, and totally loving it. Only thing I'm not loving is getting 18-21 mpg in the city. That is the majority of my driving, and I don't drive like an idiot either. I am happy with the highway mpg though. So I was just wondering a couple things I can do to increase mpg. That is most important, but getting some extra power wouldn't hurt either. If you have any help on increasing mpg, or cheap and easy power boosts, let me know. Thanks for your time.

Google search. I'm sure you will get a billion hits regarding "how to increase mpg."

18-21 mpg in city is good actually. If you want better, trade your car in for a gay Prius.
