I found this video.
It seems to indicate that the box I highlighted isn't a valve at all but just a thing routing vaccuum. Or something. I don't really understand but it deepens the mystery.

Seems to be a combined vias solenoid and vacuum dashpot thingy

I think that thing may be a bracket with two separate solenoid valve in it...

Yeah, that's what it's looking like. Basically, it's a piece of plastic, call it bracket or housing, that's box-like in the front and bellows-like in the back and contains the VIAS control solenoid and the swirl control solenoid. The swirl actuator is elsewhere in the engine but the "actuator power valve" (not the "power valve actuator" lol) is behind the VIAS control solenoid. It is part # 14510-8J110 (edit) I believe.

The thing is, this is the only thing that could "rusting" and which actually interacts with the engine power supply. Even if the VIAS control solenoid were failed, the worst it could do is not move the actuator power valve.

So, I am getting somewhere, I think.

EDIT, EDIT: So, looking at both the picture of the part (14510-8J110) and a picture of the intake manifold plenum, it actually seems to be the case the "VIAS control solenoid" and the "actuator power valve" are actually a unit and sold as such. That fricken part, with no mention of VIAS, is essentially you need for a worn-out VIAS system.

Here's a blog on "fixing VIAS". I can't really understand what they're talking about cut but it does seem they're working on the VIAS of a 5th gen Maxima. Any ideas?

if only someone could have snapped an image of the part numbers... below one is on eb ay
I really suspect that part is no longer available new.

different offering on eb ay

It may not be considered a different part from the intake upper...

Just an update on this gnawing problem.

The shop once against said my suggested wasn't and suggested buying a whole intake. On the new intake pictures I see, the VIAS parts seem to be missing.

Posts on this board from 10-20 years ago seem to be the best guide to VIAS questions on the web and they describe fixing the "Vias problem" by, apparently, as far as I can understand, bondo-ing the flap shut (unfortunately, all the pictures are gone from these old post, it seems). That seems like the simple solution since it would require no new parts. I'd hesitate to do that myself, I don't know if my shop would do such a "kludge" but I may find a friend who can do it. The only potential downside of this would be losing power at the "high end" (past 5K rpm) and I don't normally use that power.

I think the jb-weld repairs were for reattaching the butterfly valve to the vacuum lever shaft, not glueing it all shut.

maybe get an upper intake manifold from a scrap yard and see how the part works, and maybe even fix that part?

2000 Maxima SE CV Shaft and Control arm/ball joint

Hey y'all, I purchased a 2000 Maxima SE a few months ago and have been doing some work on it. Currently I am doing front end work and I'm stuck on the CV shaft and Control arm/ball joint. I replaced the CV and put it all back together, started the car and got a lot of reddish/brown liquid coming from under the passenger side, where I replaced the CV shaft. On the control arm/ball joint I can't seem to get the large nut on the alignment bracket off, and the 19mm bolt holding in the ball joint is rounded and I can't seem to get a good bite on it and break it loose. Please help me out with any advice/instructions guys! I love my car and want to fix it!

Hi this is my first maxima it’s a 2000 and i have 2 main issues with my 2000 Maxima when I first got it (a gift from my exboyfriend) it didn’t go past 20 miles and forget about it going up anything with even the slightest incline it sounded like it was about to die if it did go on anything that wasn’t a flat surface I changed out the transmission fluid about 6-7 times and got a new filter for it due to the fluid in there was so thick and nasty it looked like chocolate milk mixed with motor oil that helped a lot but one day it just wouldn’t start so I hit the starter and it started but it’s now slower than it was at first that’s the first problem the second problem is someone tried to steal the car unsuccessfully by taking out the ignition cylinder everything looks to have been left behind but I have to use a flat head to try and start it which it doesn’t anymore it cranks and sounds like it’s about to start but doesn’t I have a brand new battery new terminals full tank of gas I’ve even tried to jump it starter fluid and nothing any suggestions help is appreciated thank you please don’t be mean

Limp mode

Your Maxima is stuck in what's called
"Limp mode"

You need to get your Maxima to an
auto parts store, Auto Zone or O Reilly
ask them to retrieve the error codes.

Then post them on this forum.

Without the error codes you're shooting in the dark

Door Swap
__________________________________________________ _________________-

My 2000 Maxima SE got hit from the side and damaged the driver side front and passenger doors.

If I go to a wrecking yard are there any differences with the electrical connects and how they will work with my car if I use 2001 -2003 doors? We're there any changes after 2000 or will all 5th gen parts work?

00-03 doors will work but i advise using your existing electronics just to be safe. the lf regulator is the same (and im sure the rear ones) but the wiring is likely different

I have a 2001 Maxima that was engine swapped with a 2000 Maxima. I took off the rear valve cover yesterday, in doing so had to remove the upper intake manifold. To take the upper intake manifold off, I removed a part that I don’t quite know what it is & think I may have screwed myself a bit.

The piece while it was still attached to the upper intake manifold

Where the piece was connected. It had springs inside the white plastic piece that stuck out, they fell while I was taking the upper intake manifold off & I do not think I found all of them (I found 2, one large & one small)

I’m really hoping for some advice on what this is & how I can put it back together the right way. I was trying to find info on it all of yesterday since I lost the springs & just havent had any luck at all.
