Fan noise

Hi guys, I love the new member thread, great idea.

I have an 01 with 95,000 miles. In the past week or so, after driving for 15-20 minutes (city driving), there is a lound humming noise from under the dash. At first, I thought it might be the fan blade hitting something, but it stays the same when I turn the fan speed up and down, and the noise stops when I turn the fan off........any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Is it squealing, and is the sound more prevelant on during turns?

That set-up will be too small on both the width and overall diameter. Please read my earlier post on the subject. Read thoroughly and comprehend please. Keep in mind your stock tires are 225-50 17. Now with that in mind, refer to the articles in this link.

http://forums.maxima.org/showpost.ph...postcount=1633

Another note, check the links I provided and look up offset while you're there.

bump need some help![/QUOTE]

If you are going with 18s, go with a 235/40/18 tire (on a 7.5" wide rim)

Universal bolt pattern =

Get a wheel with the following specs and you will be happier:
18"
Rim width: 8"
Tire: 235/40/18 or 245/40/18
Lug/bolt pattern: 5x114.3 only.
Offset: 35mm +/- 2mm

That will give a more flush look, better stance, and no lame universal bolt pattern.

need more information:
-Is the humming related to the speed the car is going?
-Does sound get louder/quieter when car is turning a corner?
-Is your stereo on or off, and in what mode?

I was just hoping somebody had a similar issue before i dig into it or take it into the shop.

Thanks for your help:

-No, it is a constant humming, not related to speed driven or fan speed. When i turn the fan off, the humming quits after about 2 seconds.
-Stereo has been both. When this first started, i turned the stereo off to get a better listen, but it doesn't appear to have an affect.

Noob in need

Hello everyone. I am a noobster with a problem with my AT. I have a 2001 20th anniversary edition and I just replaced the radiator. Although the installation went smooth I now notice that my tranny seems to have a hard time shifting when I accelerate quickly. After installing the radiator I made sure to replace lost AT fluid with the recommended DexIII. I have checked the AT fluid level multiple times and it seems to be fine. Any ideas?

I just purchased stock 2005 Maxima SE wheel and tires for my 00' Maxima. I had stock 16s before and now have 245 45 18s with goodyear tires. NO rubbing, just noticed that the ride is not quite as smooth as before in the turns and on bumps (could be my old coils or shocks). My tires were brand new and the ones on the 18s only have bout 8k left on them so that also has to do with the lack of ride quality. This is getting long winded, but I was told that with 18s, you want 235 40 18. Probably your best choice since you are already lowered.
? How much was the drop on your techs and cost. Thinking of dropping mine. Good luck, and I think you could go with 19s, just a thinner tire.

i bought the h techs for about 200 if i remember right. the ride quality is still great and the stance is way better than stock. it lowered it just a little over an inch so not alot. i have had my past couple of cars slammed with coils but decided i didnt want that with my max. i am thinking about going with 18s and a 245 series tire. I would think the way your ride quality is due because of the tires and maybe the extra height from the bigger rims. But hey just a guess. thanks again for your reply.

1. If you drop the car, that tire size will probably rub.
2. Ride quality has alot to do with what KIND of tires you use, and what profile they are. Ride quality is going to ALWAYS be worse on 18s than on 16s because of the shorter sidewall. duh
3. 235/40/18 is the correct size.
4. Don't buy h-techs
5. Learn to use the correctly!!

the h techs have been great so far for me, but to each his own, would i be able to fit a 45 series tire with my max lowered the way it is on 18s? also 245 series tire will be ok but 235 is ideal? thanks

we need to know what the wheel offset is to accurately predict rubbing or not. If you're running a 45 offset, you will *probably* be ok. If you're running a 35 offset, you're gonna rub.

What is it with all of you guys wanting 45-series tires anyways? Just buy the correct size (235/40/18 or 245/40/18) and don't worry about it!!!!

If you want 45-series tires for "better ride quality" then maybe you should consider getting rid of the 18s and get some 17s, where you can run a 45-series tire!

Ok i need to bite the bullet and do the Timing belt service.

I zero in on these specific parts (Most due to the fact that they were already be removed or accessible when getting to the timing belt)

Ac belt
Serpentine belt
Water pump
Coolant temp sensor
Radiator, Upper hose
Radiator, Lower hose
Thermostat
Spark Plugs
Cam seals
Valve cover gaskets (are they acessible when doing the Timing belt?)
PCV valve
Air Filter

I didnt see the timing belt listed on the parts guide I was looking at (www.buynissanparts.com) is it under a different name? Also What is the serpentine belt considered (powersterring)

Is there anything else I should add to the list?

Also Is there a write up on how to chan the cabin air filter?

Hmmm...I'm pretty sure we have a timing chain on these motors.

we have timing chains that shouldnt even need to be replaced.
all of that other stuff can be done without removing the timing chain cover.

How difficult is it to change the 2 belts in an '03. I've ordered the parts and would like to save myself some money but didn't want to get in over my head. Do you have to jack up the front for better access or remove any guards?

i actually need to change mine soon.
it can be done just not a lot of room in there. you will need access from the bottom and top.
basically, loosen tensioner, then remove belts.

This is a good place to start. Although this link if for changing the pulley, a lot can be learned about the belt change itself in the write-up as well.

You must have just glanced at the first sentence of the page because this is what it states.:
Curious whether my Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley (UDP) from my 1999 Maxima SE would fit the 2002 Maxima, I arranged another appointment with Unorthodox to test fit the pulley to the new VQ35 motor.

I wonder why it states 2002 in the link address It is for an 02. Aside from that, there is no difference from 95 - 03. I've done them both. Ok, I forgot this is the hand holding thread.....

The 03 is a touch tighter, but it could be my growing obesity over the years.

Don't buy any "Xenon" kit for your 01. No matter what you do, the lights were made for Halogen bulbs, and if you put HID in there you will have tonds of glare.

If you want HIDs, go to the Nissan dealer and buy the OEM HID headlights from the 02-03 Maxima, which will fit right in (with some rewiring).

Call Dave Burnette (DaveB)@ South Point Nissan: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....38#post1921238

There's Parts Sticky at the top of 5th gen main page...plenty of vendors there too.

Holla at a playa!!

I'm calling on the vets here, such as Irish, Sooner, Maximus, Maxima Girl, etc..... got a 02 SE 6spd HLSD with everything, even nav last month. (Gotta brag, with 76k miles, I got if for $11,300!!!) I was looking for this car for 4 months and finally found one. I wanted either sterling or black, but ended up with Merlot (sucks). But, at least the interior is black.

Here's what I want to do to the car eventually:
--smoke headlamp/tails lenses (I kinda like the angel eyes, any thoughts?)
--smoke markers front and rear
--drop the ride about 1"-1.5" (to prevent rubbing on my 18s)
--4 wheel drilled/slotted rotors
--tint all glass, even front and sun
--fix all the painted trim in interior (previous owner unsuccessfully "matched" the console trim, dash piece above clock, some others)
--do a K&N drop-in
--upgrade exhaust, though not sure what yet

So far, I've got the front rotors on order, went with EBC. I wanted to wait until the engine proved to be sound before going ahead with other mods. I have a pinging after the engine warms up, around 1800-2700 RPM, and I think it's from some carbon deposits in the intake manifold, though not sure. How can I clean that out most effectively?

With the Merlot exterior, I thought the smoke lenses would look a little better than the stock or all clears. I'm not a guy that loves all the chrome bling, so understated is better for my tastes. The wheels I inherited are actually nice enough for now (Enkei DM5 silver w/chrome lip), but the tires were mismatched (Cooper Zeon in rear, Capitol Negotiator in front--NOISY)

I'm not the kind of guy to want to sink a TON of money into a car, but truthfully I'll probably have this one for the next 8 years, so I want to really enjoy driving it. I drive a lot (outside sales), and I want it to be fun.

I've been perusing the site looking at all suspension mods stories, engine problems, and do-it-yourself recaps, so I appreciate all the info there. But, for some of you experienced owners, what direction would you point me in for some of the mods I want to make? And, probably more importantly, what should I definitely stay away from?

Thanks in advance.
