2001 Maxima SE, SES, Trac Off and Slip lights on

Help-

I am new and have tried searching for insight on this particular combination of lights. I brought this to my mechanic and he said the Trac and Slip lights showed no error codes and are now off but the SES light remains on. The mechanic said the code was ignition misfire related so they reset that. Driving down the highway, the SES, trac off and Slip lights came on again. No noticeable change in performance. 2 days later, trac off and slip are off again but SES still remains on.

Car just passed MA state emission inspection a week ago. I am now headed to the dealer because my local mechanic is at a loss. Has anyone ran into this? If the dealer can fix it right the first time, I will be happy but I am skeptical and they are expensive.

Thanks

It's the typical coil problem. If your coils have never been replaced, replace them all. Call up Dave B and he will help you and also give you the best prices IMO

Factory Alarm System Trouble....

(I tried posting in the electronics section, but I guess I'm not allowed yet)

I have a '02 Max. The horn doesn't beep anymore when I hit the lock button on my remote. The remote only seems to lock and unlock. The panic button doesn't even work anymore and this is fustrating me. Has anyone had this issue before?

If this helps any, I recently did a mild tune-up on my car, i.e. spark plugs, manifold gasket, air filter, pcv valve, and oil change. This problem occured after my tune up. The only thing I completely took out of the engine bay was the air intake system.

Any help would be appreciated...

Try pressing and holding the lock and unlock buttons for 2 seconds on your alarm fob. Does your horn work when you press it on the steering wheel?

i'm new to cars, i'm looking to buy my first maxima soon.
nothing too great, it's a first, then i'll work my way up when i start making more money and getting more into cars.
i was just wondering, where's a good place to buy a maxima where i can set up some kind of payment plan?
cause i don't have all the money saved up yet?
and when i find one, what should i do to get it checked out.
i always see people asking or offering the VIN number, what is that exactly?
and what should i do with it to make sure the cars good?

i found a '01 Maxima SE on autotrader.com - VIN: JN1CA31DX1T837712 for $8000, $99 a month it says so i was thinking of going with that.

Yes
Do the lights blink when you lock it? I've noticed on mine too. Sometimes it gets moody and wont blink/beep, just lock. Try holding both buttons down for 5 seconds or so. It might wake up.

The lights blink too. I held lock/unlock down for 5 and 10secs, still nothing.

Is it possible that I unplugged something near the airbox?

On another note, I want to buy replacement HID bulbs. Passenger side is out. The dealer wants $230+ for one bulb. Does anyone know the size of the stock bulb so I could buy an aftermarket kit?

The bulbs are D2R Bulbs. Here's a link to a pair of used bulbs for sale in the classified section.... http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=543589

Thanks for the link

I knew they were D2R, but I was hoping for an equivalent bulb size like H4/9004/9007 etc. I guess aftermarket companies don't carry D2Rs.

You are holding them at the same time correct, and in range of your car?

No, hold them at the same. Simultaneously.

2 thumbs, 2 buttons, 5 seconds.

For more simple and quite possibly out of date information:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=142811.

Intakes are for noise.

In order to tap the REAL power in these cars, one must modify what's in between the stock air filter and stock muffler, and leave both ends alone.

Do it right and stick with Cattman headers.

Just because your SES light isn't on it doesn't mean the problem is totally gone. You may still have a coil misfire... How many miles do you have on your car? I'd suggest switching them with the updated coils

About 120,000 km. What's the best way to diagnose a coil misfire? I have been getting crappy mileage, but I assumed that was from my soft-failing MAF and stop-and-go driving.

Do you ever feel stuttering/hesitation? Thats a sign of coil misfiring

If it's cold out, the engine is cold, and I don't let the car idle for 20 seconds before driving it stutters for 5-10 seconds, then it runs fine after. I might have noticed a bit of stuttering another couple times, but the car is running fine (besides majorly drinking fuel).

Hmm.. Sounds to me to be a coil or MAF problem. I've only personally had a coil issue so maybe some others that have had a MAF problem can help.

I do know that if your MAF goes really bad, you'll know it cause your car will go into safe mode and wont rev past 2000 rpms. And also that my coil problem wasn't consistantly there but only occasionally it would hesitate/stutter
