Ok, when I went to start my car up yesterday, it wouldn't, the days prior to that, it started, but the battery sounded weak. So, I took a charger to it, and according to the charger it was fully charged later yesterday evening, after about 7.5 hours. It started fine this morning, drove it around, started it a few times without problems. However, I come back home and hook the charger to it, and it's still charging, I mean shouldn't it read FULL? Does it sound like there's something wrong w/ the battery and/or charging system? I don't believe it's the alternator, since that tested good. Could it be the battery just can not hold a charge? What's the price for a Nissan battery, or a good price anyway? Any help would be great!!

 

How old is the battery? I had a very similar problem...turns out the battery had a bad cell. Time for an Optima...

 

Oops ... forgot to mention, it's a 2000 maxima SE, original battery. Where did you go to have your battery tested?

if it's the stock battery, it's time to change. Just replaced my stock last month, had to trek it to napa, paid $70 with the cash back on the old one.

put the new one in, you'll notice it scream to life.

 

What brand of battery do you guys recommend? Stay w/ the original Nissan battery?

Well, here's what happened, took the car to Autozone to have the battery tested, just to be on the safe side, it was measuring at 8 volts, yikes!!! Then of course it wouldn't start again, so got a jump, so it turns out, there was probably a dead cell. Unfortunately, I went with a Autozone battery, I guess not so unfortunate, just wasn't my first choice. I've heard Duralast batteries aren't so bad, better than stock.

 

If you have any kind of aftermarket system, LED's or anything extra, save your yourself some money in the long run and get yourself an Optima Red / Yellow. You'll be glad that you did.

 

Yeah, fortunately for me, I don't have any aftermarket items which require additional drain on the battery, except a bug deflector on the hood, but that doesn't require any power. hehe Besides that, my girl is bone stock.

Dude, you're doing the right thing. An Optima is ideal, but if you don't have any mods, stick to what's within your budget.

 

I STRONGLY recommend the walmart EVERSTART MAXX battery. I think it is hands down the best battery I have ever used. You can take off the walmart sticker if that bothers you but you will not be unhappy with this $60 battery.

Get the biggest one with the most Amps (I think its 1000CCA 900CA). It'll fit just fine
