Battery issues

Hey guys, I had to replace my battery prematurely becuase it started leaking and getting that crusted dried battery acid everywhere. Now with my new battery I'm having the battery light come on again (no more than 50 miles). I opened to hood to see what was going on and I noticed that some liquid was being spewed by the vents on top of the battery. Is this normal? I'm thinking it's not the battery now. Any suggestions? Bad terminal maybe?
I thought I checked and everything looked ok.

The battery is being overcharged and it sounds like the whole area is contaminated with acid which is a safety hazard to you and the engine compartment. You need to remove the battery, flush and wipe down the whole area around and under the battery holder etc. with fresh water (anything that has the white residue). The alternator has an integral (I believe....I don't have access to an FSM right now) regulator which has failed. I think this is an alternator change here.

If it's the original, it probably needs replacing. I replaced mine a couple of weeks ago, huge difference!

A rebuilt alt from anywhere but the dealer will run you $140-$180. I got mine from AutoZone for $140. Installation was $145... About 2 hours of labor. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestions so far guys. I started getting the abs and brake lights coming on too. I know there is no problems with them so I thought this might help diagnose the issue if someone had seen this before. I did get an underdrive pulley put in a while back which I'm told affects the battery, but I have not had problems until recently.

Wow, I'm really surprised at the knowledge here. I took it to the shop and it was in fact that alternator. It's gonna cost me $515 to replace out. That includes the diagnostic fee. Oh well. How long is the alternator supposed to last?

FWIW - that sounds really high for an independent shop. I just had mine replaced at the stealer for less than that.

$450 ish. They ran a diagnostic but did not charge an additional fee for doing so. I had the BATT and BRAKE lights come on.
