Can Nissan dealers do a history report on a used vehicle?
I have a 2000 Maxima and bought it used with around 58k, and since then have changed the spark plugs, transmission flush, engine flush, coolant flush, etc...and was wondering, if the previous owner(s) have been taking the car to Nissan dealers for the same service, can my local dealership check to see by VIN what other things have been done to it at other dealerships throughout the country prior to my ownership? The service department is closed already for the day, and could call tomorrow, but just wanted to see if anyone might know.

They will be able to pull all work that was done to the vehicle under warranty. Any work that was done out of warranty they won't be able to see unless it was the same dealer that performed the work. Just ask the service advisor to pull a history report. (At least that's the way it works with the manufacturers I have worked for.)

I doubt they could "pull a service history throughout the country" because I doubt all the Nissan service departments are linked together. They can tell you where & when the car was first put in service and should be able to tell you if any recall work has been done (if applicable).
Another approach is to find out where the car was previously registered by looking at a Carfax report. Knowing where the car "lived" since being put in service, you can call some of the local dealers with your VIN and ask them (nicely) if they can tell you if your car has ever been serviced at their dealership.

I actually did this for my last vehicle... An 01 Pathfinder...
I called the original selling dealer and the service manager connected to the Nissan servers, asked me for my VIN and gave me every single service performed and which dealer it was performed at. The car was originally first sold from that dealer so not sure if that makes a diff.

Nissan dealers can ONLY see warranty claims in between eachother. WHat you can do is ask them what dealer the warranty claims were performed at and then get the number for that dealer and call em up. They should be able to help you. If advisors don't know the phone nr. for that dealer just go to reception. They have them all as they do dealer trades.
