Any tips before I install?

I just bought Eibach+Illuminas from a member off the org. They should be at my house when I get home from work and I plan on starting installation as soon as I get home.

I never done anything with springs/struts, but I have been doing A LOT of reading. I have been reading everything I could find.

But I want to know some tips or problems people ran into when installing them.

Any tips will help,

Thanks

Whys that? I read that usually the install should take around 5-6 hours. See I want to get them on before Saturday, because that is when I have prom.
I want me Max to look good.

its 5-6 hour job if you have the right tools. more than likely you will need to get moms and pops to take you to the autoparts store.

Prom?

man I feel old...

I put on my s tech and illuminas shocks on with not much problems. I just rented a spring compresor which when you return it you get all your money back. And just followed a step by step write up. and when compressing the springs always point it away from you. Good luck

The biggest thing is to have a breaker bar for the lower bolts that hold on the struts... If you don't have a breaker bar/useable pipe, don't even bother trying.

Ohh yeah, and the spring compressor like said right above me... I forgot it since I have coilovers

Yes I take for granted my buddy, he has a nice collection of tools. He has the 350zTT in the picture below. I def used a breaker bar to loosen and I believe a torque wrench to tighten back.

If you run into any problems you can always write me a PM and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.

I already got the spring compressor from Advance Auto Parts yesterday.

Also what does a breaker bar look like?

I read this site several times to make sure I have a good idea what I am doing. But I guess I never saw the breaker bar on the list.

Where could I get a breaker bar? and after doing some research, what size breaker bar should I get?

The easy way... Slide a pipe over your wrench and just like magic... You have a breaker bar. No auto parts store around me had one...

It's a lever more or less. Gives you an advantage when you need to break a bolt loose. What you do is slide a pipe with a larger diameter then the wrench/ratchet handle, and it acts as an extender for your ratchet.

Similar to what a pulley does for hoisting. It gives you a bit more advantage.

I suggest replacing your dust boots also as they are more then likely ripped. You also would have to trim them.

Find someone local who has done this work and get their assistance would be my suggestion. The first time around always takes the longest. Last time I changed out my suspension, I had it done in about 2 hours.

5 hours with the right tools? i think not? perhaps if its your first time.

My friend did the front in less than 40 minutes, the back was twice as long because he had to remove a metal plate that is behind your back seats to get access to the strut bolts.

so total time was 2 hours, and that included many smoke breaks, eating food, and talking about bikes. heh

oh yeah, he had air tools :-)

No need to take off the plate to get to the nuts.

Well I was able to get the front 2 in. I started later than I wanted to.

But I did take it for a spin a noticed a HUGE difference in the way the car drives.
I'll let you know how it drives when I have all 4 of them on.
