Header installed now there are noises

Well i just installed the headers and i really like them except that there is alot of noise when i put my automatic in reverse. Theres alot of deep tone followed by shaking. It only does it when in reverse. I cant quite figure out where the noise is coming from. Hopefully this is an easy fix.

Make sure everything is tight... Double check your Motor Mounts.

Do you have a strut bar? The engine is in a reverse load situation, so it moves toward the front of the car when in reverse, vs when the car is in a forward gear.

If you're 4AT (automatic) one way to try and see what's happening (i.e. rubbing on something) is to engage the eBrake, put in reverse, and check under the hood to see what might be visibly noticeable.

Invalid comparison, different car. For us there are remedies. I.e, washers for said strut bar. But the OP needs to verify this is in fact his problem. As well as provide information, such as tranny type, strut bar brand etc. Since most if not all of us w/ headers did not experience this. But, until we know the current unknowns we can't draw any valid backed conclusion.

the only mods i have are intake and headers. No aftermarket strutbar. As stated before i have an automatic transmission. Im going to put the car in reverse and have my friend see if the headers are touching anything.

i just checked to see where the noise was coming from and it looks like there is a piece of metal like a fire wall that is touching the rear headers so im going to see if i can bend it a bit.

You have to be more specific, at least a picture.

But I didn't take anything off. I do have first gen headers though.

He is talking about the Rear exhaust manifold heat shield that is bolted to the firewall...

To the OP- I don't think anyone removed it, they just bend them back. Not all will rub/vibrate... It seems to be the luck of the draw.

the problem i had was the rear manifold black heat shield. it was touching the headers so i just got rid if it. When the car was in reverse it would touch it creating a vibration and loud noise. Now its gone.

Cool, I'll remember that when I get headers.
