I took the "MAXIMA" and "SE" emblems off the 2nd day I had the car, but yesterday I took of my Nissan "hamburger" and put and Italian flag emblem over it. If you do not put something over it or fill it with puddy and then have it painted (touch up paint would look like crap because the holes are too big and noticable) then rain will get in the trunk. Has any1 else done this and what have they done to fix the holes? (Will post pics soon)

It is juts a rectangular plate that is the italian flag. It covers the holes nicely. They make any flag imaginable. I hope to post some pics soon.

An Italian Maxima, huh? Who needs a Ferrari!

I would think you would want something like Bondo to fill in those holes and then paint and finish over it just to be on the safe side about water getting in the trunk. Or for a nutty idea, get some thick fiber optic cables and run them to one of your rear lights to those holes. Heehee.

The flag could not go directly in the middle but it is ALMOST in the middle, because where the holes where it was not flat, so I had to raise the flag up a little but it looks perfect.

the only 'clean' way to do this would be shaving off the trunk, apply bondo to fill the holes, and then repaint the whole trunk...

I asked the body shop that fixed the door damage on my Maxima about removing the Nissan emblem. They said that bondo won't work in the emblem holes because there's nothing for the bondo to adhere to. They said the only way to do it properly is to weld the holes shut, then sand and paint. I didn't ask how much that would cost, but I suspect it wouldn't be cheap.

i really dont' recomend using bondo, but i did anyways. I bondo-ed the holes from the inside. i taped the holes up on the outside using masking tape to provide a backing for the bondo (so it wont gush out of the holes and bond to the rest of the trunk on the outside). after the bondo dried, i removed the masking tape and masked the outside of the holes now filled with bondo using more peices of masking tape with a hole cut out to the shape of the hole filled with bondo.. then i used 100 grit sandpaper and wet sanded the bondo down til it was smooth and made it slightly recessed into the hole since the paint has some thickness to it.. finally i painted it with some touch up paint. it's noticable but not real ugly or nething. i've also done the same with the front bumper, i patched up the holes that once held the front license plate screws.

i still need to sand it down wiht even finer grit sand paper so it'll blend in more, then i'ma hit it with clear coat, so if you stick your eyes on it, u'll see how the clear coat bulges out, but from 2-3 feet away it should be noticable..

I am not flaming anyone for shaving the emblems off their cars....to each their own and this is only an observation..

Whenever most people see a car without emblems on the trunk they think.."That car must have had some rear end damage...and the repairshop (or owner) didn't want to go through the added expense to have them replaced."

I don't want anyone thinking that I have had rear end damage to my Max. Especially when I might want to trade/sell it someday.

I was referring to the everyday person...you know the people that would never mod their car in any way. The people that would ask "Why would anyone take their emblems off??!!"...(not that there is anything wrong with that)

yeop i know what you're saying. alot of girls have onced asked me if any has stolen my badges. but i just smurk and answer with "maybe, i'm not too sure" but for many of us car enthusiast, know that in most cases, the holes are there from the factory, so someone must have paid more to get the holes patched up, rather than just paying for an emblem to slap on.
