i read the 2002 maxima will have the option of an in-dash 6-cd changer. any idea on whether i'll be able to swap out my 5th gen premium stereo for this new one? is this a question for DaveB? that's a mod i'd like to do, since i don't have a changer in the trunk.
thanks.

I doubt it... I was interested in this too back in February, however, I went the add-on trunk changer because of problems fitting the in-dash changer into a double slot like the premium stereo in the SE. I believe if you go to the Courtesy Nissan website it explains that the in-dash changer can't go in our spot. However, it might be best to check with Dave B or someone more versed in car audio than myself.

question...

Where did you get the cd changer from, and how much was it? Was it an easy install??

It depends on the 2002 if the dash may change a little bit. If it doesn't change the in dash 6disc should work

Hey guys- Did a little research-

1) The in-dash accessory 6-disc changer is for base GXE's only. The SE, GLE & GXE C/C all have the "big" radio.

2) My parts listing specifically shows the '02 changer to be in the trunk, from the illustration of the navigation unit, it's mostly taken up by screen, so I doubt there's room for 6-discs.

Hope this helps! David Burnette, Town North Nissan

I ordered my changer from Courtesy Nissan through their online parts department. I believe it was $309 plus shipping plus an extra $20 for an extra CD magazine.... However, you might want to give Dave a call at Town North Nissan. If I had to do it again, I'd rather have ordered it through Dave...

As for the install, I started to do it and became faint of heart... I took it to the dealer and had them do it

pictures

i looked at the pictures of the 2002 max at nissannews.com, and it appears they have an SE (2001 AE pedals, 6-SPD) with the in-dash 6-cd changer stereo unit. the unit looks the same size as mine, seems like an easy replacement. guess i'll have to wait to know for sure.
cost is another issue.

Nissannews.com lists the specs for the '02 Max that the in-dash changer will come with the double din system (Bose) but if you get the Navigation system, you have to get the changer in the trunk. This is because the Navi is in the center stack taking up room and causing the stereo to be a single-din.....

I ran into what DaveB mentioned. When I purchased my 2001 SE AE, the dealer mentioned a dash mounted 6-disc changer. So I had them check into it, and it turned out it was only for GXE model's that didn't have the BOSE.

Anyway, I went with the trunk mounted and have found it to be nice to have the changer AND the single in the dash.
