I have the Bose system in my 2000 SE and I am starting to not like it. The "sub" is OK for about 70% of songs but the other 30% abuse it mercilessly (and I have to listen). I had an idea I'd like to run by you guys and see if anyone has done this or thinks it's a good/bad idea.

I was thinking that I would get a Bazooka-type self-amplified subwoofer to install in the trunk and simply cut the speaker wires going to the stock sub and connect them to the speaker-level inputs of the bazooka. Is this a good way to go? Does the sound suffer much from being a speaker-level input (thinking not since it's low freqs only)? Are there line-level outputs on the Bose upgraded system? What have other people done to their Maximas that has worked/not worked?

Not Bad

I had that same set up in the 300ZX I used to have I ran the tube line level off the rear speakers. It's about the best you're gonna get without ripping the whole system out. actually you can run an amp(line Level) off the rear speakers and run a normal sub off of it which will sound a hell of a lot better than the bazooka tube. It will be louder thsn the tube and it will hit harder. but if you don't have the money to spend on a decent amp and sub than the tube will do ok. But believe me in 6 months you will be looking for another upgrade. bottom line I would say save for the sub snd amp.

covers it up nicely. Wish for kick panel speaker like in my friend's BMW, but for now, it does its job by giving the extra punch.

Where can you mount said subwoofer and amp? Better question is where did *you* mount them?
