Thoughts on Akebono brake pads

Well guys im going to have to replace my OEM front rotors and pads soon. i can feel the slight vibration when i brake. I'm pretty sure that im going with Brembo blanks because its my daily, i dont autox it at all, and they seem to be reasonably priced and fit my needs. I've read many threads on different brake pad and rotor combos and ive noticed most have run some sort of slotted or drilled rotors more for looks but ive also noticed most have gone with brembo blanks with Hawk HPS pads. In the beginning i was going to do the BB and HPS set up but then noticed saw many people complaining of a grind/squeal/squeak here and there from the pads. So i was looking into the Akebono Pro Act pads which are ceramics. I haven't seen many run these pads and i wanted to get some thoughts before i purchase these pads. Thanks again.

Oh btw, i've searched the forum and it seems that since the update of the site, most of the links are either broken or the link gets linked to another page that has noting to do with original link. it has been addressed.

The hawks make no noise if the calipers/shims/lube are done correctly. Mine have been noise-free for years on various different brake setups and cars (hawk HPS).

Akebono is a reputable brand as well, and I have nothing bad to say about them either. I prefer the better bite that the Hawks provide over ceramics, personally.

Another good ceramic choice are Monroe Performance Ceramics. i've been using them for a couple of months just to try something different and they've been very nice. Smooth, quiet, no squeal, a bit less dust than the Hawks. And very good initial bite for a ceramic pad.

I got PBR/Axxis Metal Master pads. They suck.

Anything OEM should be ok.... Go for it.

Akebono makes OEM pads and calipers for Toyota, Mazda, Nissan and others. I've used Akebono ceramic pads with Brembo blanks for my 96 Maxima and 2000 I30 for about 3 years without any issues. It's excellent as OEM replacement.

i have akebono ceramics too. wouldn't say they stop better than stock, but for daily use, they're just fine. doesn't need much time to bed in either, just take it easy for the first hundred miles or so (no hard/panic braking!). i'd like to say i've gotten around 30 to 40k miles on my first set. now i'm on my 2nd.

thanks for all your input guys. i wasnt aware that they made OEM for nissan. since its oem for nissans, is it going to have the issue of material transfer? i think the general consensus is that pad material transfer is what causes the vibration. ive read that its not the oem rotor but its the oem pads. i just dont want to play the guessing game as to what is suitable for my car. like i said, its stock and i dont do any serious driving like others. i dont care for looks but more functionality. thanks again for your input guys.

irish: i havent seen anything about monroe pads but ill have to look into that. are they oem on any specific vehicles?

not that I know of.

I personally would never buy "OEM" or "OEM replacement" pads. Why? Because OEM car manufacturers usually use whatever they can get a good deal on - not necessarily "what is best"

perfect example: 00-01 Maximas came with the Bridgestone Potenza RE92 tires OEM. Some of the worst, most dangerous tires ever made. Why? Because they probably got a great deal on them from Bridgestone. NOT because they thought they were the best tire available.

I'm not sure if Akebono makes OEM pads for Nissan vehicles here but according to their "fact sheet," it makes several for Nissans sold in Japan. One of them is Tida, that Nissan started selling here too as Versa.
