My warrenty runs out in june, so it is finally time for me to address my transmission problems. I was looking for some input from those of you with aftermarket units. Opinions on flywheel brands: fidanza, jwt & stillen. Opinions on clutchs, pedal effort is not a huge problem to me as long as it grabs and holds.

I've had only good experience with exedy in terms of clutch. For the flywheel, most of the b15 sentra community goes with fidanza and that's what I'll be going with on my max when I upgrade.

 

If you're talking about a 3.5 liter car a lot of us have had great luck with the Fidanza flywheel and 350Z clutch. The flywheel is pricey but will give a noticeable performance boost. The 350Z clutch is as strong as most stage1 clutches at 1/2 the cost. The pedal feel is much better than the stock Maxima clutch and, coming from Nissan, you don't have to worry about quality.

I've had several different flywheel/clutch combinations and recomend Fidanza/350Z to everyone.

 

for the 5th gen..is it overkill to get a stage 1 clutch when ur only doing exhaust and intake upgrades?

i mean i did stage one on my gsr and only had an intake upgrade..i can get a stage one competition clutch for 270 to my door if i wanted..btu i can get an exedy clutch(oem) for like 116..

 

Exedy oem replacement clutch and Fidanza flywheel. I agree a stage one clutch with only bolt ons is a bit Overkill. My car chirps third with my current set up noted above.

stage 1 i got comfortable w/ before my gsr was stolen, it wasnt bad...it was pretty chill, no chatter, just grabbed like a ****..but the oem clutch i put in my truck even chirps so...

i think ill do the oem replacement adn 12lb flywheel..wish there was a lighter weight

 

Hey Derrick! Long time no hear man, hope all is well.

I'm in this same scenario as well since going to the track last weekend. So you recommend the 350z/Fidanza huh? I was going to go with a Spec Stage 2+ and a Spec Flywheel. I'll be spraying about 125 shot within the near future, and if the blower chain cover ever gets complete for our cars I'll be boosted with a small shot as well. Should I still stick to my plan with the Spec or do you think the 350z/Fidanza is still the way to go? I would like to hook at 400+ to the wheels at some point......just a goal, but should be obtainable.

What's the weight of the Fidanza and with the 350z clutch isn't there a small modification you have to do to it to make it fit correctly? If this is the cheaper route, I might just go with this one to save myself some moolah.

Also, I have to pair up the 350z Clutch with a 350z Fidanza right, and not a Maxima Fidanza?

Yea its a 3.5 car 02 6spd. I thought it used to say that below my name? Anyway I'm in a similiar situation as Deckdout2. I have a nitrous kit sitting next to my tool box at work and will be installing it as soon as I get my ducks in a row. I also have been watching the progress on the blower set up for the 3.5, and would like to go with it. I do drive in traffic some, but pedal effort dosen't bother I would actually prefer to stifin it up a bit. For the 350z clutch what year should it be if it matters, part number if you know it.

The 350Z clutch should be fine for strength. In a front drive car the wheels will spin before the 350Z clutch starts to fail. Unless you are going to do a lot of suspension mods and have real drag slicks stay with the 350Z. Even with drag radials, LSD and aftermarket suspension, traction is my biggest problem.

The 350Z clutch is more pleasant in traffic and at the track than the stock unit. I had a stage 3 clutch for a while and it was too stiff of a pedal for the 99.9% of the time I wasn't at the track. It was so stiff it was hard to drive even at the track. It would be great to just dump with a lot of power but our cars can't launch like that.

I would say try the 350Z clutch. You can always upgrade later if you find you're outgrowing it.

The 350Z clutch should bolt up with no mods at all. Use the MAXIMA flywheel from Fidanza. The 350Z flywheel is different. The pickup for the Crank sensor is different. The clutch will bolt to any 3.5 flywheel.

Correct me if I'm wrong but dosen't a 350z have a dual mass flywheel from the factory. And I need a sprung clutch w\ a fidanza correct. I found it on ebay for what looks like a good price there is several avalible Deckedout2.

THe 350Z clutch disk is sprung.
I don't think the stock 350Z flywheel is dual mass. Either way the 350Z flywheel wont work on the Maxima.

Hey Derrick what throw out bearing are you using? I ordered the part number I got from Dave B, however when I went to my parts department they told me it was only a disc & pressure plate. The price from Dave B was 269 and change. Dose it sound like I ordered the right thing?

Yeah, the 350Z kit doesn't come with a TO bearing. You need a Maxima TO bearing.

 

Installed tranny today, with fidanza flywheel and 350z clutch. I would recomend to anyone considering this clutch to go a different way. Personally I like some pedal effort. This clutch is way to soft, I am hoping it may stiffen during brake in. I would say pedal effort was reduced by at least 50% and now I am wondering if the clamping force is up to par. Also it did not go directly in. I had to shave the tranny case to make the pressure plate clear around the hole for the starter. I am not sure why it is so soft a 350z has a nice pedal feel, I was hoping that mine would feel simular.

 

so any updates as to how this setup is working for you? did it get any better as it was broken in?

Supposedly the '95 GXE I bought in Feb. has a Fidanza along with a 5th gen. clutch. The clutch feels plenty strong, but does have ever so slight chatter upon release.

 

I have a 2000. Just put a Fidanza Flywheel in it with an Exedy Stage one clutch. Still breaking it in but, i love the combination. No chatter, no noise and stronger clutch and faster revving motor!
