Eibach owners - cut your bump stops!

When I had my Eibachs installed originally the installer assured me that the bumpstops did not need to be cut, even though instructions stated 25mm and 30mm cut front and rear respectively.

Low and behold after the springs settled, regardless of what my Illuminas were set to, any bump over 1.5" (est) I would bottom out with a loud crash and my interior shaking.

This weekend finally had my front bumpstops cut by djfrestyl whom I HIGHLY recommend for suspension work in NJ and all is well!! I no longer crash and fly over bumps like before because my shocks are actually doing their job now!

I have searched and seen many threads where people argued over cutting bumpstops for Eibachs, my recommendation is that if you have perfectly smooth roads then don't bother, anywhere else do it!

Do third gens have these bumpstops? If so can someone post up a diagram or pic of it's location. My car dives into dips the same way. I drove someones third that didn't do that and I'm thinking this may be part of the problem.

Would anyone recommend to cut the bumstops on a H&R front drop ??? I dont see much height difference between the two, and with the H&R it would squish more I would think. I haven't crashed (noticeably bottomed out) since ive installed, but I am most likely going for Illumina's all around so I dont want additional expenses cutting these bumstops out after all is said and done.

I put my Illuminas and H&Rs on about 2 months ago and didn't cut my bumpstops. I have only bottomed out once, and it was a REALLY bad hole in the road. I don't think it's necessary for H&R springs.

What about 4th gen Progress springs (front only) on a 5.5 gen? Would I have to cut the bumpstops?

i've got the tien s-techs and i bottom out but I think my stuts need to be replaced because it's a pretty bouncy ride on even slightly rough roads

03 6spd. Did not cut bumbstops. Eibachs and Illuminas. I drive on really rough country roads. No bottoming out. yet. Think i would rather have Steel on rubber contact rather than steel on steel contact. The thought of bottoming out without bumpstops isn't a pretty one...

Rough country roads are no match for NJ/NYC pot holes and random 3" bumps by toll booths

I have Eibachs with Illuminas and I cut mine only 10 mm. In the front I got Strut Mate (by Monroe) dust boots/bump stops and in the rear I have KYB. With both, cutting them any more than 10mm of the top, seemed like there would have been no way for them to stay up at the top of the strut rod (the bump stop would slide down). I don't see a way of doing it at all with the stock ones.

I am very curious how people have done it and managed to keep the bump stop from sliding down.

I honestly don't know if I am bottoming out or not. Not sure what it would sound like. I also hear all sorts of noises on bumps and sometimes the dash board is rattled on big ones, but I think that could be because I didn't replace my strut mounts in the front (big mistake) and it makes sense that a stiffer suspension would cause more noise. I also found that when I softened down my illuminas to 2 (just experimenting), I seemed like I didn't hear any of those noises (but then again, I didn't keep it at that setting for too long.. quickly went back to 5/5).

I had eibach and tein s-tech on my 02 max and never had to cut any bump stops. Nice smooth ride

My friend on the other hand has a 03 i35 and on s-techs his car sounded like it was going to break in half over bumps..

I know the basicly the same car but u never know.....

I have eibachs - previously on hp's without cutting bumpstops. Going over bumps/potholes, etc. sounded like the car was going to fall apart.

After the wife refused to drive my car for a couple years, I Swapped out shocks to illuminas (on 3 all around) a couple of weekends ago. I cut the front bumpstops, but not the back. Overall ride is better - but holes/bumps are still jarring (unavoidable commuting to downtown ATL daily).. Not sure if I'm hitting bumpstops or if it's just the stiffer springs.
