RPM Question
RPM Question
I have a 2001 Max. I was wondering what kind of rpm's you guys are turning at 70mph... I kinda feel like mine might be working a little too hard at that speed compaired to what it has in the past. Any ideas...Car is still stock
Okay here is a little more detail.
I used to run 70mph at around 2000rpm
now when I hit 70 im around 2500 to 2600rpms.
It just feels like its either not getting into 4th gear, or its not getting into O/D.
does that help? sorry im a dumba$$
is your problem? chill out

Actually, whenever the "OD" is not engaged, it is technically in 3rd.
In the case of the A32 & A33, 4th (OD) is activated by a button on the shifter.
Where the A33B is a gated shifter (1,2,3,4) which only presses the same micro switch as the OD button of the afore mentioned previous generations whenever going from 3rd to 4th.

Even if you changed tire size, it's a mechanical relation so that wouldn't affect the speedometer reading. It would affect the 'true' speed, but not the reading on the speedometer.
70 @ 2500ish is completely normal for the 4at. And yes, it is shifting into 4th gear as the RPMs would be much higher in 3rd.
Honestly, if it was at 2000rpm at 70 then I would be a bit worried as the transmissions in our cars do not have a gear ratio that provides anything close to that.

If it's auto, it might be slipping, also, what is your car doing @ that speed in top gear?
