Those with an aftermarket exhaust, please step in...

Ok, here's the deal: As with any aging Max, my exhaust is going part-by-part thanks to Nissan's result magnet exhaust design. Whatever. Now, I'm looking to add a nice growl to the system, but nothing over the top, and without breaking the bank. I am going to be replacing the y-pipe with a Cattman y, for starters, followed by GAB for intake. From everything that I have seen, I won't be getting a ricey sounding exhaust nor any farting. Mid pipe is also shot.

So, my request is: Please recommend a mid-pipe/catback combo, with price in mind, GAB, Cattman y, and stock balance parts, that will provide a nice sound, SANS FARTING.

I have searched the exhaust clips, nothing really covers this. At this point in time, I am considering either the Megan catback/mid-pipe -or- OEM midpipe/Magnaflow 40.

Well you could do a custom catback with a Flowmaster 50 series delta muffler with a nice longer 22" resonator sound give you what you want...

Resonator: $50
Muffler: $90
Mandrel bending: $250-$300

My new exhaust setup goes in Monday....so I'll have sound clips soon after.

I've actually been happy with the second hand feabay exhaust I got from a former org. memeber. Not to loud and I recieved several comments about how good it sounds. The large canister look isn't for everyone tho. I think you may have to get a Cat or test pipe fabed up as the rusted stock bolts and nuts might make it unusable.

I love my cattman but so far I only have a frankencar intake and a cattman axle back, on the freeway cruising the car is quiet inside but when I WOT on it the intake note definitely overtakes the exhaust sound, but I kind of dig it.

if you have a 3.5 skip the ypipe, cattman dont make them anyway and not worth the 350+ for 7hp. i had the y and cattman exhaust, sounded real nice. with headers its a lot louder, but sounds badass. i paid 600 shipped from him about 2 years. the megan exhaust sounds nice, and i think its like 450 off ebay..

my exhaust rotted out at 40k. weak

I've already assumed I am going to have to drill them out and bolt it together. Thanks, again, Nissan.

IN. Shoot me a PM when it's up. I am assuming you're having a shop do the work? Any links to where you got the items?

HA! You don't need an exhaust. Just run with just headers and a Y-pipe

Would headers/y-pipe, stock exhaust still provide any decent gains with stock balance system? And where does one get tuned?

Yes, it would. You get a safc/vafc to tune with a wideband and tune yourself or take it to a shop and have them dyno tune it.

Come on, man up!!! You've been gone for so long, you expect us to make it easy on you?

I like my full Cattman exhaust, hi-flow cat and the back. Nice rumble.

I had a WarpSpeed Y-pipe just wasn't worth the noise.

for the 3.0 guys with basic bolt-ons do not benefit from headers/y unless they do more then just basic bolt-ons...otherwise a y-pipe will suffice.

as for all my parts...
ebay.

Resonator: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Brand...QQcmdZViewItem

Muffler: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-F...Q5fAccessories

I'm going to use a Glass Pack Cherry Bomb muffler for a resonator...as I am going catless setup, glass packs from what I read reduce the rasp when running catless.

Oh heres a small vid to my car, some other stuff too but there is a clip of my exhaust in there, I just replaced the muffler with a Flowmaster 60 series which is made for 4 & 6 cylinder cars.

For a mellow sound, I'd probably do the following:

ypipe - stock cat - oem mid pipe - megan rear

stock ypipe - stock cat - megan mid - megan rear

stock ypipe - stock cat - oem mid - HKS rear

The midpipe will give a substantially louder sound with anything before it being aftermarket. I suggest keeping your ypipe and messing with everything after.

PM me: I have a glasspack just laying around BNIB.

Jeff actually lives pretty close to me, so hopefully we can make this deal. I sent him a PM last night, so...
