Trunk light out

I am having a problem with my trunk lamp. When I open the trunk, the light will not turn on at all. I have replaced the bulb and fuse. Opened up the trunk open sensor module (guessing at the name, it's attached to the latch), and cleaned all contacts. Cleaned the two grounding points attached to the body. All of my interior lights, tails, and everything else work just fine. Any ideas?

p.s. Under the carpet on the trunk lid, near the key hole, their is a brown plug with nothing attached to it. Related? What is it?

You may want to check where the wire moves in the trunk at the hinge. I have seen on some cars where the wire has broken due to the trunk being opened and closed repeatedly. Check for power along the wire.

I visually inspected the wire, and didn't see any cracks or other issues. I will bust out the volt/ohm when I get home and try that out. Thanks for your suggestion.

Power

First the power goes to the trunk light then to the switch on the trunk lid.

All wires are fine. Any other suggestions? Also, does anyone know what the brown plug is?
