Misfiring after Headers install??

Hey guys, this problem is becoming more and more irritating. Basically, the car will start up just fine but after a while (usually once I get on it) the car starts to miss slightly. But if I'm just rolling along, turn the key back with the clutch in, turn the key forward and let the clutch back out, the issue usually goes away... until I get on it again or drive regularly for a little.

I think it has to do with the VAFC, but I'm not really sure. It would make sense, as I remember the tuning guy who did my install said that the VAFC was really old and it wouldnt let him adjust anything below 4k RPMs. I wonder if this is contributing to this problem or if anyone has ever seen this before. When the car is missing, it feels sluggish under 4K but when it hits 4K it takes off even if it's at 50% throttle and I don't move my foot and I just let the revs climb.

I'm 99% sure its the VAFC because this never happened before the big install, so it's not plugs or anything. If I need to get a new controller, does anyone have any good settings? I'd rather not have to pay to have it retuned. All the tuner told me when he tuned it was that he "took out 2 after 4k RPM" if that means anything to you. I think that means -0.2 correction, but I have no idea what that means lol

Thanks in advance!

With all those mods, you should be in the 250 whp range for whp. You either have a bad unit or the tuner didn't know what he was doing.

Man doesn't that suck! That's why I always buy new components cause you can't see defective electronic components defect unless it's really screwed up! Is there a way to deactivate the SAFC and see if it's really that and not something else?

He is the best tuner around here. I'm pretty sure it's the equipment.

So I've been hearing, I was hoping for 250, but I can;t imagine that not being able to program the VAFC below 4K can affect that much WHP because all of the power is up top.

No, unfortunately. The VAFC gets spliced into the harness. I never tried, but I believe if you unplug it, the car will not run. I just don't wanna spend another $200+ for another VAFC and a tune. I'd rather just throw that money toward a UTEC - but I don't wanna blow the money on that either

But I guess $200 is better than the $700+ I'd probably have to pay for the UTEC and install... But...... How much more power can you get out of a well-tuned agressive UTEC than a VAFC? Is it a BIG difference or just a couple WHP?

Don't know! I'm untuned and don't plan on tuning as far as for now! I'm happy being in the sweet spot...12.2-12.8 AFR...A few more mods and I'm through and should be able to reach my goal with my 03 TE auto! Not trying to run 12's...just trying to break into the 13's! But from all the reading, I've done I think UTEC would offer more WHP gain! But I think you should double check your wiring to ensure there's no discrepancies...like a broken wire or solder splice! Good luck!
