Wheel bearing woes

I managed to pipoint the reason for slowly increading humming noise to front passenger side wheel bearing (thanks for all previous posters on the subject). My problem is that I went to the shop with new bearing from dealership and my wheel knukle and asked them to replace the bearing. When I came back the hub wasn't freely moving, it was 'catching' at certain spots. They also damaged dust shield between races so I requested to redo the job. The thing is that the new one they put in there also 'catches' but not as bad as the first one. They claim this is normal and when on the car 2 halves of the bearing get squeezed together and it won't do it anymore. Is this true or is it supposed to spin freely even off the car? FSM is 'clear' on this - put 5 ton pressure and it should move freely but quiet on how it is supposed to move without pressure. The humming noise is gone, BTW.

If the noise is gone I guess it was done correctly. Time will tell.
