Are the benefits the same for a 2000 or 2001? Maybe that's a stupid question(?) as I read the thread and didn't see anything about 5.0 gens.

No. The shifter assemblies and linkage are different.

going to bump an old thread here.

First, thanks for the write up. The ES instructions were a bit vague and I wasn't sure how to get the consol apart. Thanks.

I do have a tip to put the banjo bushings in. Put a bolt that is smaller, not snug, through the bushing and use a nut to tighten it in place. I think the pictures explain themselves. It took all of 2 minutes per bushing. It pushes it in square and is MUCH easier than trying to squeeze it in w/ pliers.

*don't mind the extra nuts i have on the left side....they are just there as spacers so I didn't have to thread the actual nut on so far. *

Correct me if I'm wrong here...
This kit comes with four pairs of the smaller bushings for the plastic shifter assembly, and two large bushings for the cable end banjo fittings. But aren't there FOUR banjo fittings? Two under the console and two at the transmission? Why wouldn't this kit come with all four bushings?

You are very welcome. Cudos for clever thinking on installation for banjo bushings. Excellent pictures for explanation.

Thumbs-up, AWeb80.

No, there are only two banjo fittings, one on each end of the cable.

Thumbs-up, AWeb80.

Thanks. I figured I'd save someone the grief. I did **** around with a vice grip in the engine bay for about 15 minutes and ran out of curse words.

I figured there has to be an easier way. I figured pulling it through night work so grabbed a random bolt and went to town. I was more mad I didn't think of it sooner.

It might be a good thing to copy this info to your OP so it's not missed.

Vice grips + dab of dishwashing liquid for lube works well.

Bump for more info from someone who's done this...

I bought the shift bushing kit when I did my clutch job and used both of the larger bushings under the hood for the two shift cables on the tranny. I went to do the other end and realized I needed a large bushing on that side as well. And from the picture above, maybe a second for the cable connected under the plastic shifter assembly.

I can't believe I'm the only one to have caught this. Oh well, I'm going to order another set of bushings and take some pictures of the COMPLETE install.

The second cable on the ****er assembly will NOT accept a banjo bushing. It's just a plastic connection that snaps on to another piece of plastic...or metal. I don't remember. All I know is there is no bushing there.

AFAIK, the whole kit seems plenty for me. I honestly don't thing the 4 mounts on the floor are needed....but they were supplied so I did them. I think just the two banjo bushings were plenty.

Well then there's at least three then. The two on the transmission and one on the shifter in the console.

that 'secondary' cable only moves when you pushed the shifter from side to side. I don't think it is worth paying for another set just to do that bushing. The two that you change initially make the biggest difference.

I agree after looking at the mechanism that it is likely a pointless endeavor. However, I've already used both bushings under the hood when I did my clutch job and would still like to have the other bushing in the console where it should have gone in the first place. Thanks for the heads up though. I wish the directions that came with the bushings had clarified this and exactly which cable we were supposed to modify. Especially considering what a pain in the A$$ it was to change the second cable bushing under the hood. But done is done.
