My car is pathetic!

Here's the rundown:

Went to the track with my Max. Weather was 65 degress and sunny. My best time was:
16.11- 1/4 Mile
85.72 MPH
60ft- 2.419

I have a Cattman Y-pipe, HKS exhaust and Stillen Intake and was sure I'd be doing 15.3-15.7, but my damn car was not even close. Seems like i was the slowest car there. I did have an opportunity to meet another Org member, forgot his name but his car was gutted out and he was running Nitrous. He had a 4th gen and his car was damn fast running something like 14.1 in the 1/4 if I remember. My car officially is slow!!

Coming home, I raced a new IS300 and he also gave me a beating. From around 0-60 he had a quarter fender on me then we just stopped. I'm thinking that if we raced longer, I woulda been ahead of him.

All in all, I'm not spending another dime on performance mod's and going to spend $$ on enhancing the style.

Automatic, I assume? Even then, those are worse than stock. You sure you're not misfiring or something? Check your spark plugs recently?

By the way, as a benchmark, I was running 16.4 @84 MPH before the mods came on. Maybe my expectations from my mods is too high. What do u guys think I should be running?

With the mods you have, you should be around 15.4. I've seen bone stock 5th gens running 15.7 consistently. The knock sensor is a 'microphone' that detects detonation (misfire) in the engine, and retards timing in order to correct it. You really don't notice it unless you are going WOT quite a lot, like at the track. You would need atChiltons(do they have them for the 5th gens yet?) to test it.

I always put 93+ octane. I was about 3/4 full. Any other suggestion guys? Also, how can I enhance the low end pull?

Dunno, both your time and speed are lower than they should be... Fuel filter? Air filter? Intake/exhaust leak?

Sorry to hear that, did you shift your auto from 1-2-D or did you just floor it?

Not at all. With these mod's I have, I should not have to do any of that $hit. BTW, how do I torque brake?

You still need to torque/power brake. I have a SC and still plan to torque brake it, maybe not as high around 1500rpms or so. You'll get a better launch if you torque brake. That should lower your 60ft a bit.

Actually, your expecations are right. You should hit mid to low 15s with those mods. I got a 15.4 when all I had was y-pipe, cai, and catback exhaust. So, it's definitely doable. I have a 4th gen auto though.

You should be able to do a bit better than a 2.4xx 60' time. And the guys are right, you do still need to power-brake and also manually shift from 1-2-D and time the shifts so that the tranny shifts right at redline instead of short-shifting a bit like it tends to do.

16's from a dead stop like that would not be unexpected.

If you really want to go for the best time, remove jack and spare, and reduce your front tire pressures to around 20 psi.

An automagic Maxima is capable of mid-15's (15.5-15.7) bone stock if you launch it and shift it right

Your right about that. I have a 5th. gen, mostly stock with no performance mods at all and the very first time I ran, I came in at 15.5. I'm surprised that a 5th. gen bone stock is up in the 16's. They shouldn't be like you said.

*Launch it by flashing the TC
*Shift manually.
*reduce tire pressure
*Don't run with a full tank of gas

I have a 5G auto with JWT intake, y-pipe, UDP, and bald *** tires and I got 15.25 last time with it being in the mid-70's out. I didn't lower pressures, had a little over half a tank (overestimated how far to Richmond), and had my spare and jack still in the car. That was tq braking and manually shifting. Even just leaving it in drive and flooring it got me a 15.5x, which also tells me I need to work on my launch still. Like everyone else said, I'd check your knock sensors and plugs to make sure everything's good to go before you run next time. Good luck!

well, there's your answer. it's also called power-braking.

Can you guys use any device like an Autotap to check Knock Retard, timing advance, misfires, etc? That would be very helpful in determining what aspect of your car needs tuning/fixing. Based on my limited experience w/Maximas, everyone is right on the money with the Torque braking advice and manually shifting your tranny, that early shift 1-2 is robbing you maybe a tenth or two, and the torque braking would get those 60' times down, also .1-.2 IMO.
