Got a ride in a customer's GT-R, did a nice top end run and a 0-100 romp (probably can't post the video since a speed limit sign is visible...) and the trasnmission shifts very fast. Not harsh at all, just FAST! After a ride in a customer's 1000 hp twin turbo Ford GT, however...

To the OP-until someone installs the SS in a 5th gen, gets it working right and does a good write-up, I'd be inclined to spend the extra to do a 6 speed swap or look for a 6 speed Maxima.

you should ask Jime about SS because he has it and is very knowledgeable. Honestly I dont think it would be that bad. Just do paddle shifters and you wont have to worry about wiring steering wheel controls. Also, check with him about a new tranny control unit... Im not sure which one is good for SS

6spd pros

arguably faster, more fun, "true enthusiast"

SSV4 pros

more consistent, easier to live with

both seem to be a PITA to swap or install, if u ask me i would tell u just go for the MT because at the end of the day there will be that time where u just want to dump the clutch and go, the immediate response of an MT simple cannot be matched by any AT system, reason being is YOU choose the gear to be in, not the transmission you did. It doesnt matter what AT/DSG whatever fancy auto i drive its the same way, yes u can choose the gear to be in but u have look down while driving push the stick into the MT mode position then try and figure out what gear should the car be in. i have driven some pretty nasty setups and almost every time the MT is just much more fun and i am willing to sacrifice that little bit of ease to live with to have that fun when the time is right.

just my .02

I have the 5.5 gen w/ the SS working properly, just a Check engine light for the Solenoid that are being by passed by the SSV4

write up coming soon just want to find the manual mode shifter buttons i want, unless someone figures out the Cruise control wires can be used

Hey Sci, have you tried disconnecting the resistor yet? Josh and Al seem to be liking it. As far as manual vs. modded auto/supra stick, I prefer the MT even though it may not be as consistent, it's definitely more fun to drive. I have a TCI trans with a high stall and ratchet shifter in my supercharged 5.0. It works flawlessly every run, but I still enjoy running the max with the stock 5 speed way more.
Get ready for spring. We're going to lebanon valley

Unfortunately, a check engine light means I don't pass inspection here. Doesn't matter if it is for the engine or transmission or that it won't affect emissions at all.
