My trunk slams shut
My trunk slams shut
I installed a OEM spoiler on my 03 maxima. No problems there, however the weight of the spoiler causes the trunk to slam and it doesnt pop open like it used too.
I was just wondering what keep the trunk lids from slamming when the spoilers are put on the right from the factory?

Right from the factory and it slams??
Now im curious to see if there is an OEM solution to the problem. I thought originally if it came from the dealer with a spoiler that the slamming was not an issure.
If anyone has any pictures of the inside of the trunk, that would be a big help
Thanks guys

Nothing keeps them from slamming. Mine is factory-installed and it also slams if I let it go from, let's say, the midway position (I'm assuming yours stays put when it's all the way open and it just slams if you let it go as you bring it down to close it).
Nothing to adjust in my trunk, as someone suggested in your other thread.
When I open it, it barely just unlatches the hook but it will not go up at all.

Mine is also from the factory, and when you pop it... it unlocks but doesn't open all the way up if that is what your are expecting. Once it is opened it stays all the way up until you decide to close it, it is a pretty simple hinge that holds it there are no hydrolic arms to lift it on its own.

... mine doesn't slam.. and i have ghetto sound dampening on the trunk.. i guess i just always carefully put down my trunk lid... It closes if i lightly press down on it when its sitting on the latch

2002 Maxima with spoiler does not slam
My spoiler was on from the factor and it never slammed - closed as easily as if the spoiler was not there. It popped open all the way and closed without slamming. But, about a year ago, we had to have some work done due to a deer encounter and we paid extra for the repair shop to paint the spoiler. They removed the spoiler to paint, put it back on and now it has to be manually lifted and when you close it - it slams hard. You have to be very careful or it will catch your hands. I took it back and guy said there was absolutely nothing they could have done to cause this. Not true - something was released when they removed the spoiler and was not reset. I have heard there is an additional spring or springs added somewhere to handle this additional weight. I have not gone to the local dealership to find out what it needs, but they should certainly know the answer. There is defintely a way to fix this - I just don't know what it is.

My spoiler was on the car when I purchased it new, so the factory rather than the dealership had put it on. It's a GLE so perhaps they only add whatever part is needed on certain models. I would expect the dealership could add this extra part if you requested (for a cost, of course) - I'm guessing. Some years ago, I purchased a Toyota and had the dealership add a back rack. It slammed shut and you had to lift. I hated that. Since mine no longer opens and closes as it should and did before, I know your frustration - especially as you are carrying groceries out of it. If I were going to keep the car, I'd probably check into having the dealership add whatever is needed, but I plan to sell it. It's just too bad that if you pay for a spoiler to be added, that the installation and cost does not include fixing it properly.
