your intake id size.. some quick ?s

OK so i searched and read a bunch of threads on different intake setups and WAI and CAI and velocity stacks and different filters and such. Currently in the winter months i run WAI and once the weather is nicer i have it set up as a true CAI in the drivers fender. My question is this.. i made my intake from the spectre tubing you can buy at Auto Zone. It does look good and has a great sound. The ID of the tube i have is 2.75..which is the same ID of the MAF. Has anyone run an intake setup with the ID being 3". I'm just wondering if there would be any noticeable difference between the 2. Other reason I'm asking is when i do the bbmaf to a 3" ID i was questioning if a full 3" to the TB is needed or would the 2.75 tubing work. My assumption is the air speed would stay consistent with all ID equal and with 2.75 tubing and a 3" MAF the air would bottle up in the MAF kinda like trying to fill a soda bottle with a filler.. it doesn't all go in at once and would then make engine hesitation at certain rpms. again I'm spit balling and wanted to see what you thought on the id size for OEM MAF and bbmaf. thanks

oh BTW does anyone know where to get the bbmaf.. yea yea i know the lrmaf but that is like 3.5" and Ive heard it doesn't make a diff like the 3".

Don't waste your time and money.....save for some headers so you will feel A difference....intakes for are cars do nothing but make noise, and the gains are very small like 2hp....the only difference will be you wasting your time for nothing

oh i searched all the threads from nmexmax, 6spd, sr20den and such and read all the posts on the bbmaf and read all pages. i get the info on the 3" maf, im just wondering if there would be a diff when using the bbmaf or the stock maf if the intake piping would make any diff in any rpm range using a 2.75 OR A 3 ". meaning more power at 3k with the 2.75 but more power at say 5k with the 3". i dont think that has been questioned..

As stated, I've been through 5 intakes. From spectre to injen to gab to sri to wai to w.e. How many actually made a difference? zilch, zero. I believe imo intakes only make a true differenceon built motors where every little thing has to be set up to match the next etc etc. Right now i'm running gab. Feels the same. I bought headers and THOSE make one hell of a difference. Save up, read the write up on those, and enjoy the pita project that's gonna be worth it in the end lol.

Thats just my opinion.

If you use a pipe which is larger than the MAF tube, the air will speed up a bit going through the MAF then slow down again as it exits the MAF tube. There would be some minor turbulence at the restriction.

If you use a smaller pipe than the MAF tube, the air will move quicker through the pipe, then slow down through the MAF then speed up again after it exits the MAF. This will most likely cause more turbulence than the first setup so I would not recommend it.

Smoothest flow would occur when the MAF and the piping are the same diameter.

I have no idea how this will affect horespower or torque, that's what basically happens in a pneumatic circuit.
