Where should I Idle.

Where should my 01 Maxima be idling. Not much work done just short ram intake from stillen and Greddy Evo2 Catback Exhaust.

When stopped?

From the '01 FSM:
M/T: 625±50 rpm
A/T: 700±50 rpm (in “P” or “N” position)

I idle in the driveway, sometimes in parking lots.

Try an idle air relearn. If it's really cold it may idle higher.

+1 on the relearn procedure. My 01 does not idle any higher in the winter than it does in the summer, just my observation.

Same here; 34 right now around here in Tampa Bay and car still idles the same at around 700. (I guess 34 is like summertime for you fellas up North).

starting at 1600 is normal, it should stay there for a while and slowly drop as the engine warms up. only way to really know where you're idling is hook it up to a consult II or something else that pulls the idle info from the ecu. The tach on the cluster isn't exactly precise

44F? Cold? It was 40F here and sunny this morning. I had to take my coat off and just wear my golf shirt as I was getting hot. Tomorrow night it goes back down to 0F. We do get a nice warm high of 12F Thursday though.

As for the OP's idle concern. My manual idles right around 600-650 after it warms up. This has always seemed pretty low to me, but is within specs.

No, when I'm at traffic lights, I rev and bounce off the limiter to let people around me know that my car is fast.

No.. not really, well headlights are on & fog lights.. not really any special accessories being these are factory. A/C comes on when i start it up too. Is it true that it causes more stress on start up? I think i heard that somewhere.

Why would the A/C come on if it's only 44*?

The power of the VQ can not be hampered by a mere A/C compressor.
