Yeah man that is a really good idea. I assume you got the rubber grommet and hose connector at any hardware store correct?

If I can get my hands on another MAF tube I may give this a try.

Actually, PepBoys in the section where the intake crap is. It is a kit from Spectre part #9713 that has several universal grommets and hose fittings. 12mm, 14mm, and 17mm. Great kit.

The cap was made from a black PVC plumbing cap (Lowe's) that I cut the center out of and then trimmed until it matched the shape of the MAF sensor connector.

I currently have a GAB'd intake... I love it, but since I have all these other mods and I'm tuning this month, I decided a SRI would breathe even better and give better gains. So later this month I'll be a JWT Popcharger man.

Yeah,
as long as its done correctly... Just from personal experience, anyone trying the GAB setup better take their time and double check that the filter sits in place. I didn't double check and I sucked up a lot of leaves during autumn. As soon as the car bogged I realized the risk. Leaves are harmless because they can be removed but other things like dust and dirt could cause problems.

With that said... I'm ordering a JWT pop-charger in a couple of days.

I have a Stillen Short-Ram. Can somebody with some intake knowledge tell me how this may affect performance?

Custom sri. 350z aluminum maf adapter and a aem 6" dry flow filter. Kept the helmholtz (heard it would sound like an indy car w/o it)

When i first put it on it was just barely noticible if not at wot or high in the rev range. Now even a blip of the loud pedal is just that. LOUD!!

bone stock intake,
very hesitant to modify the airbox with the GAB holes, because you can't go back to normal too easily.. still tempting though... just not sure if its worth it

I have 4 GAB holes (1/2" IIRC) and it's okay... not bad for a "free" mod. Intake growl is barely noticeable around 2k. Other than that I can't really tell it's there.

Lucky for me my bro had a 5th gen that was totaled so I pulled his filter holder b/c I didn't want to hack mine up. I'm sure a local guy with an intake may part with his for cheap.

What happened to Frankencar? I'm late in the Maxima game compared to alot of you here on the Org, and I keep hearing about this mystery company.

OEM Snorkel/Air-Box & "Cool Air Diverter" Mod

Thread; http://forums.maxima.org/5th-generat...l?ref=esp-link

The Test Data results show a definite reduction in IAT temps.

I had an idea for this Gizmo (dubbed a "Cool Air Diverter") after reading about the GAB vs. CAI vs. SRI controversy. Bottom line VQ's like cool air and suffer from breathing the hot underhood air. I saw this cheap plastic "AutoZone Mini-Scoop". It looked like a good basis for my mod idea, so with some AV snips, files, a drill, and approx 2hrs time. Came up with a way to divert some cool air coming through the grill up to the (OEM) intake snorkel. I'm not going to make any claims to it's effect on power, aside from the car seems more responsive around town and seems to need less throttle cruising on the highway (all subjective butt dyno claims). The only semi-accurate data I can give is that now the car consistently will hit the rev limiter/governor at an indicated 135-MPH and 68K-RPM with OD off. I don't know how this compares performance wise, but seems pretty good for a stone stock 130K mile 4AT VQ30DE-K (w/VIAS fix). The only other "performance" mods an "Apexi Power Panel" filter, and SRS 2.5" Catback.

Here's pictures (below); As you can see the "CAD" scoop doesn't block the radiator much. In the last 2 pictures you can see that it barely shows when the hood is closed (see arrows for edge detail).
