Stock exhaust questions. Its louder and theres no leaks
My Gle has 173k and still running strong with no major issues. Lately, ive had a hunch that it sounded just a little bit louder inside the cabin during acceleration. Seemed like it was stemming from around or behind the center console location. ( I have good ears) I figured the flexy mesh or cat had a hole in it as one would think. After inspection I have come up with nothing...Except that the long round resonator ( I guess you call it) was not suppressing much.
My questions:
This typical?
Is this resonator composed of fiberglass which would help explain the deterioration over time?
If not, possible that something broke inside.....?
Thanks for help and suggestions

It's possible to get a circumferential crack almost anywhere that the pipe section changes or has anything welded to it. So look on the pipe sides of all your flanges and around all of the hanger locations for them, not just at the gaskets for evidence of their failure. I welded up a couple of exhaust line cracks in the 20AE a few months ago (not quite 100,000 miles on the clock).
I mostly noticed the leak when first starting it up, but otherwise that's a good descrition of the way it became apparent.

Its still getting louder....and another symptom...It smells like bad eggs out the exhaust...Could this be my rear cat breaking down and that's why I am getting the louder exhaust? Definitely noticeable after WOT when I stop

My precats were breaking down but my car was still quiet. Either there is a leak or it could be the OEM muffler is wearing out. Typically mufflers have baffles and sound deadening material-not sure about ours.

Yea thats exactly the symptoms I had... Its not your cat breaking down because then your car would be unbelievably loud. It has to be a leak somewhere after the resonator if it's still somewhat quiet. The smell is simply leaking into your cabin, rather than being propeled behind you. Buy a new cat-back and be done with it

Ten four guys. Yep, im kinda liking the sound as it is. So I already have the Megan catback sourced out. Its cheap enough that makes sense and sounds pretty decent. Id sure love to go with the 3 inch Catman but I just cannot justify spending that kinda money on a ride that I cruise around in.
Thanks for all the input guys.
