A new Catback Exhaust?
#41
i think he is just adding the inches for the multiple resonators he's got... not necessarily 1 38" resonator (wouldnt even fit on just the catback)... the video sounds good on SLC's exhaust, for some reason im not sold on the sound though... maybe due to quality of the vid.......

I personally like the ballsy G35 sound I have with the full Cattman 3" and Gen III headers/y-pipe. It isn't annoying at all.
Performance and quietness are two things that simply don't mesh well. Either settle for a resonated to hell 2.5" or buckle down and enjoy 3" resonated with growl. It isn't a ricer sound and so long as you're not shifting above 3k for daily driving, you're fine. I actually find it a bit of a challenge not to open it up on on-ramps just because the sound is amazing.
I have had nothing but compliments from my set up (and there have been tons). I definitely see this set up working so long as it is within the $600 or lower range.

I did some math and the dual 2.25" outlet is actually slightly larger volume wise than the 3". In my formula I used 1 x 3" dia x 6" long tube vs 2 x 2.25" dia x 6" long tubes.....Volume (3"): 42.41 cu in vs (2 x 2.25"): 47.71... 5.3 more cu in.
The Perforated surface area in sq/in (3"):42.39 sq/in....(2 x 2.25): 47.668 sq/in...5.278 sq/in more in a theoritical 6" long tube!! I'm curious how this Borla muffler will perform in comparison.....usually big V8 mufflers work well on smaller engines...but that extra cu/in volume could also be extra volume db wise.....Just curious! If the other 2 less expensive approaches fall on their faces then I'll try this $233 muffler.....which will need to be fitted from the slip joint on back which will be easy as hell!!!!
Don't get me wrong, I feel the Cattman 3" is awesome power and sound wise, I'm just trying to tone it down a little for more comfort....

I like the sound, personally. It sounds much nicer in person than in the video. You can only do so much with a Kodak digicam.
Only downfall as a result of having headers, and therefore no precats: Lots and lots of drone. Hopefully the resonator I'm planning to have put in line with my 16" res will help quiet things down just enough to be bearable.
Droooooooooooooone...

I would assume it is minimal if any on an N/A Maxima. Of course anything that hinders flow will decrease power, but most decent resonators are pretty free-flowing.

As Cattman stated, once you reach a certain length, a perforated core just wont do much, comparing say from 20 - 70".
I noticed about 3% loss of airflow up top when adding a louvered core.
For sound, larger bodies helped too. I noticed going from a 3" to a 4" body really helped quiet things down even more (same length).

You mean 20' er don't you? I'll be starting on a few pieces for my 3" Cattman catback....the cone inserts, the dynamat in our bass drum (sparetire recess) and a Borla XL turbo muffler p/n 40670 which features the 3" inlet that splits into 2 x 2.25 perforated tubes about 3-4" once into the muffler, then exits in dual 2.25" outlets, case dimensions are 19" x 4" x 9.5"...(Cattman 19" x 5.5" x 9") IMO I believe with more perforated tube surface area this muffler will be quieter.....

personally id have to say that my favorite muffler that ive ever run is a borla. perfect tone, great tip options. was contemplating a remus till i got the cattman, and after the expense IM NOT CHANGING THE MUFFLER lol...but with a high comp n/a build the borla was perfect. dont thinkk youll be upset at all.
Had Borla catback on my last car, Contour SVT, and it was the sweetest sounding exhaust I have ever had on any car. My coworkers and friends all commented on it when I took them out.

Then had a custom 2.25" cat-back on my '96 G20 with Borla muffler. Sound was superb, but a lil on the loud side in-cabin. I accidentally went with the smallest spec'd Borla which had little to no silencing. Ended up replacing with a Magnaflow to replace. Sound was nice, but not as nice as the Borla.
I've always enjoyed the sound of a Borla exhaust on any car I've ever heard them on. Excellent quality (expensive) mufflers.

He said it was in Miami. Did you hear back from him yet?
He also has a phone number on his website right?

Had a Borla rear section on my '91 NX2000 sold thru Stillen as their own. Custom 2" midpipe and hi-flow cat. Loved the sound of the exhaust. This was when the exhaust shops thought a 2" cat-back was way too large for a 4 cylinder (early 90's). What do they know...

LOL. Ya, wish I could wait a bit... need catback now so prob won't be avail. soon enough...Although a secondary motivation factor for Greg & BRM could/should be to take full advantage and get these maxima exhausts made/fitted & out the door in a much more timely manner.
