A new Catback Exhaust?

A new Catback Exhaust?
I have been in contact with Greg Childs from BRM exhausts. He is potentially interested in making an exhaust for us. His shop really makes quality products, as a lot of 240 owners can attest to. He is also a dedicated Nissan enthusiast, in fact he is the president of nicoclub.com . I was wondering whether we have enough people potentially interested and also whether one of our members would be interested in stopping by his shop in Florida to model their exhaust for them?
This is still somewhat tentatively but I just wanted to put a general feeler out there.

2.5"? 3"?
i think their should be a decent response on here,.. for what its worth,.. the dual tip is desired by alot of members, and custommaxima ,.. is in the QA stage of development with theirs i think they are running a batch of 50-100 and selling them for ~380-400 shipped...
I think price/soundclip will go a long way in terms of potential

That cat-back (assuming it's for a 240) is sick looking.
If that same set-up was fabricated for the Maxima, and priced right, I'd say it would sell quite well...
...I had a similiar set-up (all Magnaflow) on my G20 and loved it.

Considering my 3" has 38" worth of resonator covering the entire area from the Y-pipe to the first B-pipe bend, and what looks like the biggest 3" muffler cattman could fit on the rear section and it still isn't QUIET... good luck with that.
Unless you want louvered resonators and chambered muffler... and in that case, it just doesn't seem worth it dumping your gains from 3" piping on a non-straight through design.

I can have me (i30) and another 5th genner (maxima) go so he can design one for our longer bumper also if he's willing too.

The exhaust pictures is for a 240sx. It looks like 3" and it is all mandrel bent, which is a huge advantage over custommaxima. For the 240s he offers both 2.5" and 3" and the 240 dual tip catback is 475 shipped which I think is really reasonable. I'll send him the link to this thread.

No reason a 3" exhaust can't be quiet. People are getting something like 18 hp gains with the Cattman 3" exhaust, right? I'll trade 2-3 hp for a turbo style muffler that will quiet it down significantly. I honestly didn't notice any change in power when I went from a Magnaflow (straight thru design) to a Vortec turbo muffler on my Accord (which had a header) but the difference in sound was nothing short of amazing. I still had a deep (but not loud) tone at idle, at full throttle my AEM cold air intake was louder and at freeway speeds the drone was completely gone. No exhaust noise detectable at all on the freeway.
In terms of "feeling a difference," I wouldn't trust your butt dyno any more than mine or anybody else's, which is VERY little. There are far too many factors for a butt dyno to be accurate in any situation. Can you be sure it's only a 2-3 hp loss?

A good turbo muffler still flows very well. Everyone is so hooked on straight-thru designs now they forget how good turbo mufflers can flow. I was running a pair of Sonic Turbo mufflers on my Chevelle and not only was it quicker (about 1 mph gain in the quartermile, .1 drop in ET) than the Thrush mufflers (straight-thru) but a lot quieter...well at least as quiet as you can get with dumps at the rear axle. However, V8 drone at freeway speeds sounds a lot better than V6 drone.

i was kinda waiting for your post funny dude... but anyways, im not asking for a "quiet" 3" exhaust, i believe quiet is relative here... aslong as its not obnoxiously loud but has a good tone i dont mind... not expecting it to sound like a cattman 2.5 or suttn like that.... id love to hear a sound clip from rogeezy

Considering my car was a lot quieter, it should have felt slower with a butt dyno but it didn't. Just odd hearing the intake noise instead of the exhaust all of a sudden.

Not to nitpick, but every thrush muffler I've seen (including 2 in my garage) are a louvered design. Were those also? The louvered designs can play havoc on exhaust velocity because of all the turbulence. Turbo mufflers are definitely better than that, but you have to know there are definitely losses when turning flow by 180 degrees a couple of times.
Fully aware I would lose some power vs a straight-thru exhaust but I drive 20-25k miles a year and a lot of that is freeway. Just can't deal with having a loud car with those kinds of miles.

Hey Stephan - Shouldn't be a problem.
I'd give the test vehicle owner a system at cost.
If anyone wants to take a shot at it, have them touch base with me via email.
Thanks!
His email is greg@nicoclub.com
Someone jump on it and once we get someone to guinea pig this we'll have another great product for the maxima!!

The said exhaust?????????? To clarify,.... Do you mean the 2.5" BRM exhaust? Or just the Magnaflow muffler used on the 2.5" 240 exhaust system @ post#1?

Brian is a great person who makes great products,.. trust me I have his headers,... but if were talking a near 180% price difference,.. people are going to be alot more willing to buy,... just FYI
my ? to greg,.. how many is he willing to produce? ,.. I think he would have no problem selling ~30 units in only a few months,..
