How do I know if I have BOSE? (purchased used)
I just picked up a 2002 SE 6 spd this weekend. The previous owner replaced the stock headunit with an aftermarket cd player.
How can I tell if it is a BOSE system? I assumed that BOSE only came with leather and because of that I did not have it. I have since noticed a few people with cloth and BOSE. None of my speaker grills have any indication on them. Are they typically marked?
I don't really like the look of the aftermarket cd player and am thinking about putting a stock cd player back in. I was confident that it wasn't BOSE but now I want to make sure.

It's not just the Maxima, BOSE is a pathetic excuse for a company who builds nothing but shyte, and marks up the price. It's kinda like Apple computers.

the only thing that bose makes that is decent is home audio. i have worked in installing car audio and the problem with the Bose headunits is the lack of versatility with them. When you replace a Bose headunit on most vehicles you also have to replace the speakers, due to the way the Bose headunit is wired up with the speakers. My first 5.5gen maxima had the Bose system in it and i quickly replaced it with an alpine headunit and Boston Acoustics speakers.

The Bose speakers sound good (the ones in the doors).
I got rid of the Bose sub, and replaced it with an Alpine Type R (10")
Also, I got rid of the Bose speaker amp, and replaced it with an old Hifonics.
I am really pleased with the sound.

It's not hard. My friend and I hooked up a 12 inch Kenwood sub in my trunk last weekend in literally five minutes. Not sure about the amp as we didn't install one but as for the subs I have no idea how the head unit would have anything to do with that.

I like my Bose as teh factory unit. I could probably live without the cassette deck, but it sounds fine.
BTW, have to disagree about Bose being a good home system. Those over-priced little cube speakers are junk. "Bose, better sales through marketing"

well from what i've experienced from bose in my maxi pad is the door speakers get pretty loud but have absolutly no bass. I've heard stock honda speakers with better bass. the sub handles itself pretty well til about 15 volume then cuts down. I know my Moms Murano, her door speakers and sub are so good they rattle the whole car..and its bose. every panel is flexing hard

...and could be had as a stand-alone option as well (as in my cloth-seat 02 SE). I have to agree with the majority of people that the BOSE head unit is junk - mine was replaced twice under warranty and the CD player still skips when it's cold. I would have replaced it already had I not put most of my money toward my engine, which now mostly removes the need for a better one. Especially since I got headers. And I don't mean it is too loud to hear any music, I just generally keep my stereo off and enjoy...

Hopped in my car the other evening in the garage to let it idle for awhile and when I put a disc in I got the CD ERR F3 ....Which from what I can tell means that my HU will no longer play CDs....awesome.
I enjoyed it while it worked. The single disc BOSE in my 2K SE was excellent, never skipped a beat.
Time for an upgrade....

Duno what you guys are talking about, the Bose in my G is fantastic, one of the best I've heard from stock systems.. and the one in the I isnt bad either to be honest, compared to other cars of its year.

Bose=junk imo. At least this is the conclusion I've come to after having 3 Maximas unfortunately come with the "Blows" system and all 3 having bad head units or speakers or both. I like my Pioneer navi head unit a lot more than the Blows.
