I can't see how one should expect there to be a problem if this is not done often. Our cars are designed to be able to not blow up when pushed to their max potential. I don't see the point in allowing a car to be floored if doing such a thing would be really bad for it

BTW, full throttle shifts tend to cause less wear since the transmission shifts with full line pressure. On part throttle shifts the line pressure is less and the clutch packs don't grab as quickly so the shifts are smoother but they also cause more wear since there is more slippage on each shift.

That trades less wear and lower heat generation for more impact. Certain automatic transmissions had a known tendency to break off one of the ends of the low/reverse band, which would have been an impact/fatigue issue (there's a little bit of bending in the band ends that can't be completely eliminated).
