2002 GLE / SE Wheel Spec. Comparison
Folks:
I'm trying to compare the specs between '02 17"s on GLEs and SE's. this is a fill in the blank question.
2002 GLE 17" wheel specs are 17X7 JJ, offset ____________.
2002 SE 17" wheel specs are 17X______ JJ, offset 40MM.
I have some 2002 GLE wheels, but am trying to lower the overall vehicle height by 0.5" by mounting 225/50 17's (SE size) on the 2002 GLE rims. First, it would make sense to ensure they are the same width.
Can anyone help? The rim width is stamped on the back of the SE 17" wheel. . .I just don't happen to have one handy.
Thanks!

I am 98% sure the 2k2 SE wheels are 7" wide..the same as the 2k1.
you can call the dealer to make sure...but most people will tell you its 7" wide. the higest width of tire you can fit on a 7" SAFELY accodrding to manefactures is 225 and that's what the SE has so i am pretty sure that the width is 7"

I wouldn't recommend going with a shorter tire in an effort to lower the car. Since you have an automatic, the tranny ecu bases it's shift points on engine speed and rpm. When you add shorter tires, the ECU gets incorrect readings therefore shifting too early. If you add a manual, it wouldn't be a problem.
If you are going for a lower look with the shorter tires, it will do the complete opposite. The shorter tires will enlarge the wheelwell gap making the car look like it's riding higher. If you want a slightly lower Maxima get a set of Eibach lowering springs (1.4" drop). They will also be much cheaper than new tires.
