Remote won't open trunk

One of my keyless remotes won't open the trunk, everything else works fine. I changed the battery, still no good. The other remote works just fine, so guessing the problem is with the remote, not the car. Any ideas?

I would attempt to reconnect the remote to the car. There is procedure on how to do it in the FSM. Otherwise, it could be a bad remote (bad button). Maybe it's been dropped one too many times?

The remote has a bad button and re-programming the car for the remote won't help. What you can try is taking the remote apart and cleaning it internally. Take the little printed circuit board out of the plastic housing and clean the area where the button touches the printed circuit board with rubbing alcohol. You have a 50-50 chance this will fix it.

I actually had a similar problem not too long ago, basically everything would work except for panic and the trunk button. I'm guessing you haven't tested the panic button since most people don't really use it that often. Anyway solution to my problem was the ignition some how didn't get turned to the off position completely when I pulled my keys out. Another symptom to this problem was that I would hear the "keys in the ignition" dummy sound when I opened the door (keys weren't in the ignition obviously). Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there. Good luck!

Thanks, guys, for the responses. I did a quick clean of the remote when I changed the battery, but I'll take it apart again and do a better job and see if that fixes it. As far as the key not being turned off all the way, I don't think that is the issue, as I don't hear the chime when I open the door without the key in it. Might be time to just buy a new remote, probably can get one from e-bay pretty cheap. Or, just swap remotes with my wife, hopefully she won't notice!

Same problem here, the remote was not working only the lock button was warking and the unlock was realy hard to press-----> Open the remote, take the battery out and clean everything inside with the correct cleaner, go to Radio Shack they have some pretty good stuff to clean electrical connectons.... now after cleaning all my buttons are crisp and sharp to the touch.... and also put a new battery inside don't be a cheapoooo

So, just cracked open the remote, and then removed the guts (which I didn't do over the weekend when I changed the battery). WOW! What a mess, looks like somebody spilled something on the remote, it's all sticky inside. I certainly didn't spill anything on it, or drop it into any liquid, wonder which one of the kids did this to me.

Gonna clean it all up when I get home (don't have any rubbing alcohol here at work), I'll let you know what happens.

Sometimes the most obvious solution is the best.......Thanks, folks!

Well if what was spilled on the remote had a sugar base to it then you mostly are going to have to replace the remote because sugar will eat the circuit board, and no amount of cleaning is going to restore badly damaged areas of the circuit board.

Step 1: open the remote and take the battery out
Step 2: CAREFULLY remove the little board from the upper cover case
Step 3: you will see 4 little buttons which you can press with the top of your finger nails if those are clean you should be able to "hear a click" when you press them
Step 4: Clean the inside of the rubber buttons/cover
Step 5: Take a little piece of paper towel and soak it with cleaning alcohol DO NOT PUT ANY OF IT ON THE CIRCUIT BOARD!!!!
Step 6: Hold the tip of the soaked paper towel on each button of the board until it is clean so when you press it with your finger nail it starts to click

Make sure everything is DRY before you put it back together!!!

If i knew that this was such a common problem i would have taken some pics and make it as a DIY. I might if a lot people ask

So, took the remote apart last night, cleaned it all out, and yes the buttons feel a lot better, but the trunk still doesn't work. So, will be looking around ebay for a replacement. Any recommendations from somebody who's already done this? I'm certainly not going to buy from the dealer!

The important part of buying a replacement remote is to make sure it uses the same radio frequency as the original. The radio frequency can be verified by looking at the FCC ID on the back of the remote. If it hasn't worn off, it reads NHVWBU43 for the 2000. I bought mine about 2 years from ikeyless.com and didn't have any problems. Sadly though, the price has gone way up. I paid $35 and now its almost $60.

Yep, that's the number on the back of mine, along with part no. 282682Y (man, those numbers are small, my eyes aren't what they used to be!!!).

Thanks for the help.
