Looking for a quiet Exhaust....??

I've been trying to keep my car stock (i.e. 30 years old with 2 kids). One of the joints in my OEM cat back blew out today, so I need a new exhaust. I'm debating about what to do and want something very close to OEM sound but power gains would be nice.

-Are there any aftermarket exhausts that sound very simular to stock, yet offer some power improvements (cost?)?

-Anyone know what an new OEM catback would cost? Where can I get one if I don't go with aftermarket?

Thanks guys!

Just in case the Exhaust shop tries to get over on you also check carstuff.com pretty cheap for OEM parts and got some others like Walkers also...and if you do the install yourself you save a little more extra cash....Good Luck....

Keep in mind OEM is Stainless Steel, it's not cheap. Just be aware of that if you're looking at "OEM Replacement parts", doesn't mean it's stainless.

If all that is wrong is a bad flange, the rest is till ok, then just fix the flange....?

No need to replace and entire exhaust unless it's about to crap out as well. That's just a waste of money/Premature repair.

Go too a Nissan dealer and get a quote. I remember getting a quote for my OEM muffler on my 2K Max and it was somewhere north of 700, JUST the muffler.

Then again, I am in Canada and we usually get pounded hard for parts.

The flange is always the first thing to go. Mine went and I spent a few dollars on a short pipe I clamped and screwed in there.

Correct again
The OEM exhaust is stainless, the flanges, not always, but the welds, definitely not. The welds/flanges/bolts rot out first. You can get years after fixing them out of the rest of the exhaust. It's pretty rare for the actual pipe to rot out (on a SS exhaust)

I'm pretty much SOL on repairing this one. The pipe cracked after the flange...

I'm hearing good things about Megan Exhausts... But, these are probably no where near OEM sound, correct?

........................... no megan is an aftermarket catback, if you are stock it would still be quiet but appearently you only want the oem sound so no this won't be for you..... already gave you a solution

Correct as Hustle said.
It will be louder.

Is it cracked at the Back side of the Cat or the Front side?

Front = Y-Pipe
Rear = Cat-Back (hmmmm really???)

I assume you know this already. Just making sure.

I'd suggest a custom bent pipe with a new flange, and keep the stock muffler.
Go with 2.5" Mandrel bent it will increase your Power a touch as well.

Megan is too loud, I had to get an oem muffler welded back in to quiet down the car almost to stock it still has a little rattle since I have cattman y-pipe, test pipe, and 2.5" piping all the way up to the muffler itself.

'Rattle' like banging against a cross-member, or 'rasp' like a Honda Civic w/ a melon shooter exhaust?

Sounds like you need some new hanger bushings (exhaust isolators) or maybe jack that car up and make some adjustments.......

Maybe rattle isn't the right word for it.

What kind of muffler is that? It looks like it would purify water while muffling your exhaust.
