I bought my 2000 Max SE for $500 running and driving with 160k. Lady i bought it from just wanted quick cash for tires for her Hummer... Couldn't pass that up! Not looking to race her, but i've kept her stock and besides some tint. Any info on a clean and simple intake system let me know!!!!

Hello,
Newest new guy here! Just purchased my first Maxima ever so it's a learning curve for me. Its a 2001 SE, 152k, Picked it up from a co-worker for a steal and couldn't be happier. I'm in the process of detailing it because she was definitely neglected in many areas. I already messed up and forgot the before pics, but I'll have some after pics up soon when I'm done!

Hello. I have used maxima.org for the last 4 years helping me save some coin working on the car. Never really spoke up (don't think that will change much) but I figured I would share some photos of both my babies. 2002 GLE & 2002 M3.
Taken with what seems is a calculator (quality sucks and I know it).
Once again, thank you all for being helpful over the years!

Hi all. I just bought my first car. 2000 Max Se. I figured I would start off right and buy a Maxima. So I'm wondering what the first thing I should do is mechanically as far as mods go. Something not too expensive but that makes a difference in speed. Car only has 88k on it and I bought it for 4600. Brand new rotors, brake pads, cv axles, tires. Runs and drives great. I raced my friend in his 2013 mustang v6 and I would have won but a my car has some weird lag between 40 and 60 when you stomp on it but after 60 it really goes. Any ideas on upgrades to make it faster.
Thanks, Rc
Thanks, Rc

Just picked up a 2000 Maxima SE w/150k...or maybe it's a 2000.5, who knows. I've tried looking around but can't get a definitive answer on how to tell which model year it is.
Bought it as a little bit of a fixer-upper; clean body but runs like *****. Currently has 4 codes and sounds like she's running on 4 cylinders. Knowing what the car could be and the color convinced me to try and breathe new life into her. Looking forward to searching the org to help find the cure for this beast.

Purchased a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition 2 weeks ago after furiously hunting down 2000-2003 Maximas...and I love it. I upgraded from a 1995 Nissan Altima GXE.
My car research led me from..
1. 2000-2004 Ford Mustangs - Wanted V6 stick shift sports car, realized RWD would cost more bc or need for snow tires, interior is cheap and ride is not smooth.
2. 2001-2004 Lincoln LS V6 - Wanted powerful engine and luxury. not reliable, and repairs are expensive
3. 2000-2003 Nissan Maxima SE - gave me powerful engine, luxury, reliability, low cost for repairs, V6, stick shift, sport tuned suspension while maintaining smooth ride, FWD, no need for snow tires.
Everything clicked, and I hunted down Maximas til I found the right one. Picked up the 01 SE 20AE w 130k miles.
Right off the bat, I re-did the stereo system. I had some cheap, outdated HU that reset every time car turned off. Tweeters were ripped out, two non working speakers, and sub was hooked up in rear deck.
I immediately ripped out the HU to throw in my JVC Arsenal KD-A525 (which I got off eBay New (Other - Open Box) for $40) just to get better sound quality and iPod interface while my speakers were on the way. Purchased Kicker 6.52 (6.5" w 20mm Component) and 5-1/4" Kicker DS525.
Couldn't get any speaker to play because the aftermarket speakers that the previous owner put in were running off the Bose amp...Took me many hours to realize this.
I posted in Bose Replacement Thread yesterday and an immediate reply by djfrestyl told me look at the FSM. Found a 200 pg pdf file of every electrical system in my car...(which was a dream come true bc im studying elec engineering). Crossed some wires in the trunk, and I had working speakers powered by my aftermarket HU. Tweeters didn't fit in pillars, so I ran wires directly from HU and mounted em on the dashboard angled towards me.
Running signal wires to from HU to Bose Amp to power woofer using Metra 70-7551 this week...
Stereo sounds amazing now, can't thank you guys enough. I never would have figured this out without your help.
Thanks again...
Rob

Sup everyone? Just picked up my baby max. It's a 2003 Nissan Maxima GLE with 130k miles. Loving it so far, happy customer Plans for it are drop an inch or 2, tint, rims and switch to 5th gen tails. I was trying to get a manual max but didn't come across one that suited me so i went with auto, but still love the power.

New Owner
Hey Guys,
I recently came to the realization that it was time to trade in my 2003 Pontiac Grand Prix. Being only 21 years old, and only having had the Grand Prix for a year and a half, I was very sad to get rid of the best car that I ever owned. I quite loved my Grand Prix. (Brief history: 2006 Kia Spectra 2.0L 5M, 1995 Honda Civic EX Coupe 1.6L 5M) After a transmission failure left me stranded broadside across traffic while making a left turn, my parents offered to help me buy a new car. I test drove cars extensively, finding not only a bad buyer's market at the moment, but nothing that could compare to the Pontiac in terms of comfort and a decent driving experience. In general, I prefer a large, sporty sedan. Naturally, my mom tried to steer me toward a low-mileage Sentra and some Tauruses that just didn't cut it for me. I don't like to be picky, especially when someone is borrowing me money, but I do thoroughly enjoy the personality and driving characteristics of a good car.
While attempting to test drive a 2004 Honda Accord coupe (the 2 door car was my sign of good faith for not being too picky), I was disappointed to find out that it had been sold. Stopping at the Nissan dealer next door, I happened upon a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE 20th Anniversary Edition. I had no idea what it was, or what 20th Anniversary Edition meant, but it just stuck out at me. Normally, I would have done extensive research into the car, but after test driving it, I knew it had the personality I was looking for. Way too many hours later for a cash transaction, I was late for work and the new 4th owner of the car. Curiously, the previous 3 owners had bought the car from and maintained it at the same Nissan dealer in West Allis/Greenfield, Wisconsin. Picked it up for approximately $8400 with just under 81k miles on it. It has the 4 speed automatic (which is definitely unfortunate, but wasn't a deal-breaker) and neither the Bose system nor leather. It's only been 2 days, but so far, I have to admit that I really like it.
My only plans for this car as of now include tinting of the windows (my Grand Prix was tinted 20% ALT all around and it feels really weird to drive without it now) and a complete replacement of the stereo (head unit, all 6 speakers, amp, and some sort of bass package). As I am a college student, and subsequently broke after the purchase of a new car, the cassette tape adapter I picked up today and stock stereo are going to have to suffice for now. Pictures of the car will follow soon.
The only problem I have so far with the Maxima is that the cruise control does not work at all. The steering wheel audio controls work intermittently. I am a *huge* fan of cruise control, and look to get it fixed as soon as possible. I've spent some time browsing the 5th Gen Forum and also look forward to learning as much as I can from the veterans here!

New Guy from Southern IN
I'm Checking In... Big Thumbs up on the Forum, been very helpful already.
I became the happy owner of this 2003 SE Titanium Edition with an Automatic this past week. This is my 1st Maxima and I'm smiling big time. I stumbled on this site early in my search for one and have been lurking around quite a bit since. Loved knowing what potential issues to look for while I was kicking tires, much thanks to the contributors here...
Anyway, she has a few of the "not so uncommon" issues I'll be taking on right away and getting her back in shape. Then a few mild mod's here and there may be in store. Hopefully I can give back even a fraction of what I'll be taking away from here...
Thanks...Yankee

Hey guys. Newb here to the forums, but not to Nissan. I have an 01 Max, 5 speed. I had a 99 Altima, and an 86 300 ZX before this. Loving the car so far, aside from replacing the clutch master cylinder yesterday. Yeah, bleeding that was fun...

Just picked up a 2000 Maxima for around 4K with 120K miles for use as a daily driver. Not a bad ride at all! Looking to just make it a little more comfortable and adding some bells and whistles.
Looking forward to learning a great deal from this site!

Hello Maxland,
New owner of a 02 se with 145k on her. It is an automatic in good condition. I plan on doing a few things:
- cleaning the headlights
- clear rear and front corners (which bulbs should I use)
- 18" g35 coupe wheels
- lowering it on h&r's (is it ok to do without new struts)
- to reduce body roll and the "fluffiness" should I install a rear swaybar, or strut tower brace? Which is least expensive?
- thinking about buying one of those precut tint sets and applying it myself....anyone ever done that?
- any other tips or advice will be greatly appreciated.
Also, any members on here from or close to Buffalo?

Hey org, finally made my way over from torontomaxima.com after lurkin here for years lol. Not a new maxima to me (ive had it for two years now), but being new to the boards, i figure i might as well post.
2003 Maxima SE (autotragic)
Bought with 130K km now at 175k km
So far ive:
- installed the sound system from my old maxima, Pioneer DBL Din DVD deck with 2x12 Kicker CompVR subs hooked to a Hifonics Brutus Amp.
- LED bulb replacements inside and out, but only for the lights, dont have the time to do a full LED swap in clusters and such atm.
- Also turned my coin holder to a USB input.
- Dynomatted as much of the car as i could.
- aftermarket alarm w/ remote starter.
- 6000K HID fogs and Heads w/ fog rewire
For Performance/Suspension:
- BOP
- Knight Custom Intake
- Timing Advance
- Lowered on K-sport Coils
Future plans include:
- Getting rid of that damn CEL. just an evap code, but it bothers me LOL
- Replacing the driver seat and carpet for ones that arent torn
- Paint headliner and rear deck black
- Black out headlights
- Powdercoat stock 17s gunmetal
- 20% tint all round
- Full Paint job either KT3 or gunmetal
Future Wish List
- 6mt swap
- supercharge (i love that whine)
- full exhaust
- custom sub enclosure (that actually works, not just for show)

2002 SE 6spd
Hey Everyone,
Last week while I was on holidays I picked up a 2002 SE 6spd. It is a one owner car with 135,000kms on it (85,000 miles) and is super clean. I see a couple of rust bubbles starting on the passenger rear quarter and a few marks in the back bumper that I'm going to have taken care of before the winter, but other than that it is in remarkable shape for a 10 year old car.
I purchased it as a replacement for my 2003 Impala LS that was my daily driver. It has 255,000kms on it (160,000 miles) and the transmission is now slipping pretty hard.
I don't plan on doing anything too crazy to the Maxima. Perhaps intake, exhaust, tint, and fix the paint and rust spots. Also I'm going to check out some shifters, stock is ok but I'm interested to learn if there is something a bit more precise and direct in the aftermarket.
Anyway, I look forward to learning lots on here.
Brett

What's up ppl.. Just purchased an 02 6speed in white a few weeks ago. So far I've done tints, system and got rid of the ugly tail lights it came with and put on 01 se tails. Love the car and hope to learn alot from all you guys.

What up. Just bought a SE Maxima 02 6spd 3.5 49k miles. This is my second I had 91 SE 5spd years ago. I've built alot of old school Domestic stuff, getting back into imports with this 5th gen. As of now I need to find some fog lights(mine are missing), and then going to start with basic performance mods. I'm seeing that there are alot of things I'm not familiar with, but hopefully I can learn here. Car just threw a check engine light last night as well, so Autozone trip tomorrow.

finally...
I've always wanted a Maxima. When the 5th Gens came out, I thought they were the coolest sedans on the road. Over a decade later, I'm shopping for a winter beater to get me to work and back and I decide to up my budget a bit and look for a well-used Maxima. I found a very well-maintained 2001 GLE and picked it up yesterday. Still looks sharp after 223,000 kms.
I'm sure I'll be checking out the forum for help in the future. Glad to be here!

Hey Im Dave just wanted to introduce myself and my Maxima, I just picked up my 2002 Maxima SE with 109000 miles on it. Picked it up for $4700. It is 3.5L automatic (I really wanted a 6 speed but all had way to high of mileage for me). The previous and only owner has all service records which is awesome. Its Sterling exterior and Charcoal interior. Its not mint but its in damn good condition.
My last car was a 98 Mazda 626 2.0 5 speed that was totaled in a three car accident on the highway. I guess this Maxima is the best thing to come from it.
Ive done all my own work to all my cars. I dont trust anyone else to touch them really. But I will be honest this car seems like a horse of a different color... I will certainly be relying on these forums for help in the future. And Im wicked glad to see that its very active.

Nice choice on your Maxima, welcome to the site! This site is a HUGE stockpile of information, with some very knowledgeable and helpful people. For most things you come across, you'll more than likely get the fastest answer using the searchbar up top. There's also some threads that are really helpful, like
This one for information on replacing/upgrading the Bose system;
http://forums.maxima.org/audio-elect...nt-thread.html
and a lot of others. The searchbar is one of the most useful parts of the site :]
