Hi guys what's going on I'm victor from queens new York, use to own a 94 maxima sold it a few years back, well I'm looking to buy a 00-03 in the next month or so... What are some red flags I should be aware of? Mostly I'm looking on craigs list many dealers and personal owners.... My budget is $4500 the most well if someone is asking for 4500 I'll bring them down to $4000 lol or even lower.... Mileage is somewhat scaring me and I know alot of maxima's mileage is high and they can last a long time... I want something under 100,000 ... Need help people !!! Thanks on advance

^^ Welcome to the org.

Craigslist is a good resource, but buyer be weary.

I would check the classifieds on this forum, as well as on www.nycmaximas.org.

Yo!!!

Just picked up my Max last week! Not new to Nissan - My 5th Nissan and 3rd Maxima. I have owned primarily BMW's of various flavors, 4 doors, 2 doors, etc..

I had a 1994 Maxima SE Auto back in NY (Queens), around '96 or so, needless to say it got stolen. The thieves did a "nice" job, no scratches, dings, just neatly removed everything inside, airbags, seats, consoles.. clean job.. haha!!

Next Maxima was also a '94 SE Auto, bought it here in Atlanta around 2003 or so as my DD. I had a 2002 M3 at the time, sold the Maxima a few months later. I have a disease..

**** Current ride is a 2002 Maxima SE 6 spd., Grey w/Blk leather, only 67K miles! Rides little soft, shocks are gone all around and need to do a balance, alignment, some basic maintenance, air filter, fuel filter, etc.. ******

A few pics of the old and the "new"...

New One - Pics from when I went to go check it out. And yes, I need a shift ****..lol!!

Nice pickup! Don't forget to replace the saggy spare tire cover in your trunk with the one that I've designed and sell (see sig)

Best of luck!

Oh and I have a thread going for suspension - feel free to post in it if you have any suspension questions.

Hey everyone:

Been lurking around for a while, finally signed up a bit ago and now I'm getting around to posting. I run a salvage vehicle dealership/body shop, so my car came from an insurance auction. It had a tree branch fall on the rear window, dented up the roof, fender got a little banged up, but the price was very right and it's all fixed up, so now I'm the owner of a 2000 SE 4AT.

Had I known I'd like this car so much, I would have held out for a 5.5 gen 3.5L 6MT (nothing against the 5th gens). Got it with 93,000 miles on it and 1 owner, so I'm trying not to complain.. Put new tires on it, full tune-up, changed fluids, it had a seized rear brake caliper so that was changed too.

Nothing too crazy will be done with modifications. I used to do a lot of autox and lapping days, so a coil over setup, sway bars and bushings, and more than likely a big brake upgrade will be in this Maxima's future. Just for daily driving enjoyment, I won't track the AT. Then I'm looking into which intake/exhaust route to go. Basic, functional, and quiet are the names of the game here, I don't need any obnoxious and custom setups. I'm also interested in tackling an HID retrofit, I've never done it before, but I have the aptitude and utilities to do so, so I may give it a shot.

There's a lot of knowledge floating around these forums, I've already learned plenty and hopefully will contribute where I can. Anyway, enough rambling, I'll move on to other threads specific to each mod.

Cheers.

Fantastic deal.

Now you can spend some of the money you saved buying a spare tire cover (see my sig)

Hello,

I bought a daily, and ended up getting a 2001 maxima SE. Had it last year and been running fine and strong ever since. Added 20k miles to the car because I have a 1 hour commute for work. Now I finally registered and wanted to get some stuff done to the maxima. Possibly converting the headlights to 2002-2003, and resolve that PO420/PO430 code.

Hi my name is Joe from Hendersonville TN, I recently purchased a 2002 Maxima SE with 156k on it. It is a 6spd with hlsd....I think. I am really enjoying the car and have recently replaced the suspension with Tein H-techs and KYB shocks. I would like to do some mods but not sure where to start, but with some research I think I will get some quality info on here. I will post some pics once I get her cleaned up

I just got my 02 max 6 speed a week ago. I think I'm going to do some general mods like Cai exhaust and headers, or I might just go for the titan 5.6 swap.

Hey everyone, newbie here...not new to forums, just new to Nissan Maximas. I just inherited a white 2001 GLE with only 40,000 miles on her. My wifes grandparents had the car since new and I don't think this car has been over 55 MPH...

I love the car and plan on some quick mods to kick up the looks a little (tint, wheels, new headlights and taillights).

I am looking for some basic mods to improve performance...I am guessing air intake and exhaust? Any suggestions?

Hello!

Well, I just purchased my 2nd 5.5. I originally had an 03 and I loved the car so much that I just got one on Saturday, the 31st. Boy do these cars sell fast. I found one and was trying to scrounge up the cash and when I finally got the money. It was sold :-( I continued to look and didn't find anything. I was so stuck on getting an 03 that at times I completely skip 02s (what's the diff between the two anyways).

So I found this 2002 6SPD on 20" rims with tinted tails... LOVE IT. I got it for 6k and it has 139K miles on the dash, cloth interior. No other mods really except the aftermarket headunit.

wassup maximas.org been here for a year but dont really comment too much
I joined when i bought a 2000 gle auto matic last april with 119 on the clock, drove it till october and totaled it with 130 miles on it in some really bad weather :/
sold it for 1200 with a missing front end and a jammed transmission

got hooked on maximas...so i've been saving, last week i bought a 2003 maxima gle with 56k on the clock for 6k, its pretty clean, it just needs shocks and struts all over, i'm thinking going coilover in the summertime, and it came with the ugly 2001 gle rims (not the 5 spokes) so i want to replace those with some TE 17's asap..but overall i'm really happy with the car, its pretty quick and just as gas efficient as my old 3.0 if not more, The interior is also way more comfortable than the 2000 and I'm really like the steering wheel controls. i'll post up some pics when i get the chance.

Newbie Here

Just joined this. I have a 2001 maxima gle. Best car out of the 3 ive owned.
1st was a 97 camry... lasted 5 weeks and got totalled
2nd was a 95 subaru legacy. Had good plans for it paint, redo wheels, lower it. But had constant problems out of it (starting problems, censors, transmission fluid leak, brake fluid leak, some other leak bit i already forgot) and about 1500 later quit messing with it since nothing stayed fixed.
Now i have my max. Love this car. Just got to 131k miles. I wanna eventually paint her pearl white. Ive thought about lowering but i have a 2 month old
will try to get some picks on here soon

Congats on the pickup. The Maxima should be very reliable for you.

There are options for lowering that are very comfortable. H&R's are a great spring, moderate drop, and superbly comfortable ride.

Also just found a pretty big rust spot the other day. Behind the grill. Hubby wants me to look into trading. I think i want to wait it out until next year and get a newer max. I just dunno if i could get rid of this car. Ive always liked the way they look

Recently purchased my first Max (Black 2002 SE - 129k miles) and I love it. Only mods so far are a FSTB and RSB, but more are to come! I'm more concerned about the previous owners lack of maintenance, so that's my current task. Replaced all plugs, sway bar end links and bushings, air filter, and a ball joint. Next weekend's task is the fuel filter...

Also a quick thanks to everyone on this form for providing such a valuable resource of information. Before I registered I spent hours and hours pouring over all of this. It has helped me a ton with said maintenance and will continue to be useful as I start modding more. You guys rock!

Nice forum! I've been reading through this forum every day for the past week straight, and have used some of the great info on here to help me work out the kinks in my new-to-me 2002 Max SE 6-Speed. I've got most of it solved, but I'm still having one issue I can't seem to solve. I'll post in the main 5th gen forum, but I wanted to say hi beforehand. I'll get some pics of it soon for you all to see too. Cheers.

New 2003 SE owner here. Just got her a few weeks ago. 6-speed, silver, black leather
107,000 miles. Car is in great shape in and out. Unfortunately I might have the timing chain tensioner issue but that'll be another thread...

Well peepz, after a long and hard search and a lotta negotiation, I finally got the 2003 Max SE 6-speed that I've been looking for since I got my 01 SE Auto back in August. I woke up this morning and decided that I'd go to the Nissan Dealership to see if they can pull the code on my ABS (cause the light was on). So I talked to the tech guy and he said it would cost $112 for it. I didn't wanna spend that much just for a code, so I ended up leaving and went to a Honda Dealership that I knew had a 6-speed on lot. I just went in so I could take a look at it and how it was, and ended up trading my 01 Auto SE with 138k, clean title and no accident history for their (now mine) 2003 clean title, no accident, 163k 6-speed with $1k on top. I personally believe that was a great deal. No rust on body. Engine and trans seemed up to par. The only thing it needs is a headlight restoration and a new muffler cause I don't like the fart rocket **** it has on it right now. Other than that, I love it. Has lots of raw power. Off the lot, I was peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeling without any effort whatsoever. Gotta love Nissan.

I'll post some pics when I get a chance.

Today, I am one happy camper. =)

Hey guys I'm just got myself an 03 maxima GLE black on black, leather(amazing condition considering mileage) --> 136k miles. First thing I know in this Georgia heat this summer the windows are getting blacked out ASAP. I have been reading the abundance of information on here and can't wait to get started! I am a noob with cars so any suggestions are welcomed. I used to have an 02 acura tl type s with 20's but it was wrecked long ago here are some pics

Hey what's going on guys....

Just recently joined because I decided to keep my Maxima. Got it about 6 months or so ago after I got rid of my second 240sx. If you guys are ever on NICO, you might recognize my username, I'm pretty active there. I always had kind of oddball cars, but now that I'm in college, I decided to get something a little more "normal." Oddly enough, I've come to really like my Maxima. It's nothing special, all stock except for a sub/deck I recently put in. You guys weren't kidding when you say the Bose stuff sucks!

- 02 SE
- Just turned 140K
- Charcoal grey
- Grey cloth
- Slushbox

Funny enough, I don't have any pictures. They wouldn't be that interesting anyways, it's just stock haha. So I figured I'd post some of my previous cars in order that I've owned them.

Anywhoo, that's a quick intro for me. I miss those cars dearly.

Oh well though...plans for my Max are:

-roof rack (I bike around campus)
-wheels/tires (stock 17s are ugly as hell)
-suspension (thinking coils but idk if I want to deal with the harsh ride; btdt)

Hope I can contribute some soon! I know I'll be learning a lot! Thanks guizzzz....

New to the org!

Hey all! Just picked up a White 2000 SE!

Its got 93k on it but was 1 owner. It was an RI car and it doesn't seem to have any rust on it which surprised me. Ive got some basic ideas such as lowering/wheels/HID's. Looking forward to learning all I can on the site! Hoping to have some pictures up shortly!

It wont stop raining up in the northeast which is making it hard to take pics!

New Owner

Hey guys,

I just bought a 2002 SE, Silver mist, 6 speed with 140K miles on it two weeks ago in NJ for $3,700.00. I live in VA and shopped it on CL because I couldn't find a decent 6 speed in Virginia for the price. The previous owner was Ukranian mechanic who specialized in aftermarket performance parts. His accent was so thick over the phone I felt like i was trying to buy a car from Borat. It almost put me off being it was located NJ and titled in PA and owned by Borat, but everything turned out to be legit.

What was on the car when I bought it

-Aftermarket black honeycomb grille w Nismo Badge
-3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap on hood and trunk
-Nismo Graphic across top of windshield (illegal in VA)
-Stage 1 clutch installed 200 miles (niice)
-Blue headlights (illegal in VA)
-Blue interior lights (probably illegal in VA)
-Stash compartment in console for "party guy" (also probably illegal in VA)
-8 new speakers 6 are alpine S - no complaints here
-Carbon fiber wrap on console and dash cluster
-Red Buttons on window panel to control pop gas tank & trunk - weird
-Ipod dock milled into console (cant use it must dremel the hole bigger 4S)
-cut outs in trunk for TV's
-Carbon wrap on door handles, side markers, and eyelids (probably illegal in VA)
-Custom exhaust I can put my fist through (illegal in VA)
-Chromatic tint (too dark to pass VA inspection)
-Taped up rigged air intake duct previously modified no doubt

What I have done since

-Removed vinyl wrap on hood and trunk - No issues thank god
-Replaced blue exterior lights - (VA legal now)
-Replaced exhaust w Summit Racing Turbo - (VA legal now)
-Power steering hose replaced I shopped .org to find (thanks .org)
-Replaced worn shift **** for a sweet brushed aluminum ball shifter
-Replaced Air intake duct with used OEM replacement ($50.00)

What I plan to do

-Replace grille with OEM in matte black
-Black out headlight housings
-Paint car a dark dark pewter grey
-Paint rims black
-Install real eyelids not vinyl stick on's
-Rear sway bar
-Possibly install Tien SS coilovers
-Get some good tires
-Install an AMP & Sub
-Enjoy

Thanks for the support thus far .org

Hi all, recently purchased a 2000 Infiniti I-30 with 107k miles in millennium jade metallic. Car was in great shape when I purchased it from its original owner with maintenance records. It did need a transmission drain and fill (fluid looked a little dark I didn't drop pan this time), new belts, psf change (I am using the pump fluid out of reservoir and fill reservoir with new fluid until fluid looks clear method), and a new air filter.

I hope this car will go 200k+ miles for me without needing too much in repairs. I try to do as much maintenance as I can by myself and I know this forum will be a great resource. In the next year or so I plan to replace the suspension, and maybe make some minor modifications.
