Greetings to all I just coped a 2000 SE with 150000 miles and just wanted to shout out everybody here and hope to find some useful tips for improving the ride. I want to do some upgrades to the suspension/steering, soundsystem and maybe a few more horses.

Tungsten Blue 02 5.5 SE 6 Speed with a bag of ISSUES!!

Hey guys and girls, I just bought a 2002 Maxima SE 6 Speed. Clean carfax with about 18 documented maintenance visits to their local Nissan service department. Second owner had the car since February 2011. It has 179,900 miles and ran great when I picked it up two days ago.

The first night the Service Engine Soon light pops up after I let the car idle in my driveway for about 10-15 minutes. Two codes popped up P0300 and P1800. I cleared the codes and the car drove normal. I took the car to work yesterday and it drove fine all day. I had to make a 5 minute trip to the convenience store last night. It started a little hard and the car ran terrible on the way there. Bucking and almost powerless on the quick ride. It started and ran fine on the way back home. SES light came on again and this time P0430 popped up along with the other two codes.
Went out to start the car this morning and THE CAR WILL NOT START, just keeps cranking with a slight chance of life every few cranks. I decided to stop cranking her to oblivion and post for some insight..............

My best guess is possibly a failed coil/coils? Along with the plugs? It was such a drastic change from smooth, good running VQ to dead Maxima in my driveway. Thats just for the P0300 code.

What about P1800(VIAS)? Would this keep the car from running properly?
P0430? O2 sensor? Possibly a product of the other issues?
I know I will have to get it towed but any help/suggestions are appreciated.

ALL SUGGESTIONS APPRECIATED!!!!
Text me if you want with specific questions about the car and how it behaved or any and all suggestions.267-456-7702

P0430 is usually indicative of a failing precat.

I've got a 2000 Maxima. When I accelerate, I hear a rattle coming from the front end around 2000 - 2500 rpm. Anyone know what could be causing this noise? Also, I was wondering if anyone uses any fuel additives to clean out their engines and I was wondering what kind of oil you guys use if you use anything special like synthetic or high mileage oil. I just inherited the car and want to get as many years out of it as I can.

Thanks.

^^ Is it coming from the vent itself or is it coming from the vent area?

Have someone ride in the car with you so they can put their ear to it/move it around while you drive. Easier to diagnose that way.

New 02 I35

Have had it for about 2 1/2 weeks. Started out with 138K on in, and now have 141K. I'm looking forward to learning from and contributing to this forum. Coming over from Bimmerforums after an e30, e32 and an e36. If this one is like the others I'm a part of, I'm sure there is a wealth of help and info here, along with some great folks willing to jump in and help. Already been looking at some threads on things that are common and need to be addressed on my new old car.

Hey guys

This is my Maxima.. There are many like it!...But this one is Mine!
11/27/12 Purchased a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE 150000 miles, Automatic.
The car runs like new, owned by 1 owner who took care of it since day one, All maintnance records on hand.
It does need few things:

1. Radiator leak
2. Water pump Leak
3. Front stabilizer bar links broken
4. Exhaust system brackets rusted
5. Battery

It is coming from the passenger side vent/ glovebox area. The sound starts to come when I make a right turn or hit a big pothole. It will stay for a while and go away. The sound fades when i put the blower setting into 4, but is more prominant in 1 and 2. It goes away at times when it is in 3. But if you switch off the motor, it goes away instantly. I am wondering if I need to change the motor itself or cleaning the area will do. Ive been reading on this and heard some leaves and even a mouse story.
Ive ordered a pair of cabin filters and would take a look at it then.
What all areas do i need to clean when i pull out the motor and install the filter?

Radiator, sway bar links, and battery are easy. Water pump is somewhat involved and exhaust brackets need someone with a welder.

I'm VERY local to you. Hit me up if you have any questions/need help.

Once you open it up you'll probably see the culprit. No other areas besides around the cabin filter box and around the motor fins need cleaning...nor are they very accessible.

A new owner

Howdy folks,

I bought a 2003 GLE on 12/30/11. Thus far I'm happy. I've been driving trucks for the past 21 years so this represents a bit of a change. But I needed a change in image to go along with a new job. I'm now a Senior Auditor with the countries premier mortgage fraud investigative agency. Previously a custom furniture and cabinet maker so the trucks were just fine. Now dealing with attorneys as an investigator, auditor and consultant it just seems a Maxima projects a better image.

Anyway, I'm glad to be here, and am glad this resource is available to myself and other 5th generation owners.

I'm new to the forum but not new to the car scene, I'm from a small town about an hour north of Columbus, Ohio. My first car was a 1984 Nissan/Datsun Maxima back in 1996. I loved that thing and put so much work into it.... after over 200k, I sold it to get a more reliable car and was out of the Nissan world for a while. I then Leased a 2008 Nissan Altima SL for 3 years (favorite car hands down that I ever owned), and when I returned my lease, I picked up a Mazda 6 for cheap that I drove until wednesday when I traded it for my 2003 Nissan Maxima SE.

It is a white 6 speed... 151k miles and has had a tough life. I am in the process of fixing all that is wrong with it and will be looking to this forum alot to get it back up to where it needs to be.

My baby is my 1997 30th Aniversary Camaro with the Ultra Z package sporing a 383 LT4 motor and 6 speed. My best time is 10.28 @ 135 but being a 6 speed I could never keep consistant times. I haven't driven the camaro in years now, it just sits collecting dust because wife and children have came and I now have other priorities, but I hope some day to get back into enjoying that car as well.

2000 Max GXE Auto

Hey guys, just picked up a white 2000 max gxe for $4400 that at the time had 43,000 miles on it. I have put about 3,000 on her since i got her and have done some cosmetic work to her. I took the pinstripe off and debadged her. I also tinted the windows(Just got my first ticket last night around this time driving in seaside, nj). I wanna put some black 17inch wheels on her but cant find any i really like. Any ideas on other mods for a noob?

Hey everyone, I've been lurkin on the site for quite a while now. About 6 years or so now. I used to have a 95 max se limited that was slammed on 2000 bars. Loved that car all the way to the 275,000 mile mark when my wife got hit by a chick who ran a stop sign. We sold it and missed it so much we bought a 2002 maxima SE 6MT last year. It needed a clutch and the body is not in the best shape, but I got it for $2k so I didn't care. It was my wifes ride for the last year now, but we just traded my slammed 2000 silverado ECSB for an HHR for her to drive so now I get the maxima and can make it mine. I'll be doing the body work and replacing the broken front bumper this spring and giving it some fresh paint. The second gear syncro is toast due to the previous owners trying to drive it with a bad clutch, so I'll be needing to replace the tranny soon too. I've been getting info off this site for years so I figured I'd sign up and contribute too. I don't have any pictures on my computer so once it's worthy I'll be taking some pics and posting them up.

i got the same noise, and i have come to the conclusion its the hamster wheel when turning making the noise.

what looks to be happening is the fan moves along the shaft when spinning.

I removed the blower from the HVAC case and turned the fan on and the noise went away, i tried to bang on the case to see or hear if there was any loose items inside and i found nothing.

When i saw the fan spinning while in my hand i could see the fan on the shaft moving around, not sure if it is actually supposed to be doing that but it didnt seem normal to me ...once i get another one and replace it, i will see

Maxima for my kid

Hello Everyone,

My name is Jeremy and I'm from NC. I just bought my son's first car today. It is a 2003 Maxima GLE with 139k on the clock. It is in amazing shape for a car of that age and mileage. My son and I went and looked at a few cars today and the Maxima was in such great shape that I made an offer on it this evening. That is something I don't generally do.

I look forward to learning a lot on the forum and please don't hate me for owning an '07 Civic SI as my daily driver.

I've been a member of this forum for a while as I was shopping for a maxima back in the day. Never actually owned one until now. Just purchased an 03 TE 6 speed with 87k miles. Leaving stock for now due to funds but I'm looking forward to lowering and doing a few performance mods. I'll post pictures at some point.

Here it is, gotta love the wheel gap.

Hey guys! Brand new Maxima owner, and new to the forums as well. I'm Josh from Rock Hill, SC, and just picked up a 2001 Maxima SE with 130k miles on it. Spent under 6k, so I think a good deal. Unfortunately this is driven by my fiancee as well, so it's automatic. I do have plans for some mods when funds become available. For now I need a headlamp bulb and fog lamp bulb. I will post pics as soon as I can locate my camera.

Hi everyone. I'm from Mil WI. First post on here. I've been driving a 92 Acura integra for the last 15 plus years, in addition to my work vans. I've been lurking around here for about 6 weeks since I inherited a 00 SE auto 134k miles from my old man. Before that I knew nothing about Nissan, let alone maximas. I love the 'new' car.

However, I really miss the manual, so I embarked on a quest to find one. A many thanks to all here on the site, I've learned much. Based on what everyone says around here, I decided an 01 AE or 03 TE would be a good fit. Well I found a fully loaded 01 AE manual with 85k this week, and decided to pull the trigger. Was 6800. Don't know if that's good or bad, the dealer had it listed for 8. Thing is however, the more I read about the TE, the more I think I should have waited on the purchase! The 6-sp just looks so fun...... anyway,

Was thinking about modding the AE, but I'm as complete of a car newb as they come.

edit: found someone
