Man that is a SHARP cutoff. How 'custom' is custom? Lol, was that hard to achieve?

Making the shield itself takes 2 minutes. To get the right curvature, spacing, and straigtness took me 4 hours of constant tweaking. Making a shield isn't hard, to tweak it to get that sharp I need to understand how the beam pattern, hot spot location, and takes tons of practice. Every projector behaves differently and needs to be modded differently.

00-03 Quads 1/13/12

Opened the driver side headlight. The glue is pretty lame actually. There is no retention and it's more like soft rubber than the OEM one. It has adequate amount just not the same type of glue applied in the OEM housing. The OEM glue is actually tougher to seperate and they have lots of retention when gummy ( heated). Anyway, I spent some time to clean up the glue. It will add OEM/NAPA Butyl tape when I'm done.

I noticed that the turn signal relfector was wobbly/rattle. Once I opened the headlight, there was the problem, the screw tab was broken. Oh well....

Top is Ebay housing, Bottom is OEM
The ebay housing is exact copy of the OEM one, everything was identical, even to the ballast mounting. This is actually a good thing, since I can mount my ballast in there. The OEM housing is Polypropylene (PP) while the Ebay is Polyamide (PA) glass filled. The PA is actually pretty good material, high strength but a little brittle compared to PP which is a little bit stretchy.

Even the reflectors are indentical, as far as mounting points.

I couldn't wait to see what it looks like so test fitted the G37 3" projector with OEM shroud in the low beam area

M45 projector in the low beam area.

Hopefully I can finish the bracket design this weekend.

I prefer the gen3's. I was able to get a nicer cutoff out of that setup, not sure why.

I gave up on doing a custom shield. I really wanted to make that custom prism shield. ughhh.

JVX is the king of custom shield. He's got mad skills and patience that most people don't have. It's not easy at all making prism shield especially by hand. When I did custom shield, it's not that fancy really. It's just curved shield from .010" aluminum flashing. Take a pair of good scissors and just start cutting. I usually then take sanding block and sand the shield against the block on flat table, this is how you get them flat and straight. The rest is just making te curve section, this is really trial and error process, nothing scientific.

One of my turn signal reflector tabs was broken too. As far as the glue - after tajing them apart it becomes extremely easy.

I ended up taking mine apart at least a half-dozen times and without adding extra butyl, I have no leaks or condensation issues.

Also, you'll find out that the metal the reflectors are made of is very porous and delicate, so handle them with extreme care - especially when tightening and loosening the screws

00-03 Quads 1/20/12

Didn't have too much activity lately. I'm just lazy working in the garage when it's cold and wet outside. Did finish building model for the custom bracket that will replace the reflector. Did the best to my knowledge to re-create the reflector mounting points. Getting few quotes and should have the bracket sometimes next week. With this bracket, 60% of the work is done. Once this is done, the rest is just cosmetic work, which is no small task, but at least the lights are functional.

I'm also getting a quote to get the headlight inside bezel hydroprinted with Carbon Fiber pattern like in this picture (property of Hydro Graphics INC). This stuff is much better than what I did with E46 retro a while back with CF Vinyl wrap. I think this with combination of OEM G37 shrouds will look awesome

This retrofit is going to cost me a lot of money......

It is designed for G37s. I'm going to put some more holes for other projectors also for next time. I know it fits RX330 and E46 also.

Andro is putting in work!!!
I had a great experience dealing with Andro. The output is beyond amazing IMO and the cutoff is sharper than any factory kit I have yet to see on the road.

Very honest and very dedicated about his work. The forums need more people like this.

+1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to you my friend!! keep up the good work

If that is the case and most projectors, well most that will fit in the maxima headlight, are mostly the same size.. you could make a generic mounting plate and with a pattern, cut out the mounting/adjusting holes for the various projectors.

Or maybe that would be more trouble than its worth?

Well that' the plan I hope, if I can offer a universal bracket for 02-03 headlights that would motivate people to retrofit their lights. I'm also thinking that the OEM reflector would be " the shroud" that would be attached to he bracket. This would make a clean retrofit process and minimize the alignment process.

In my setup it was designed for G37 sedan. You can see in the bracket designed that I changed the mounting position of the left/right screw. The screw adjustment is still using OEM setup, but the mounting points are different, hence new bracket left/right adjustment screw (the one that shapes like kidney bean). If my measurement is correct, the bracket wil be able to do G37s, E46s, and RX330. The high beam bracket is much easier to design since there are no possible interference with adjustment screw..

Sounds confusing...I know I'm too...

Hey MSU, can you do me a favor? Can you check to see if the OEM turn/parking lamp reflector/lenses will work in place of the ****ty ebay one?

The test fit of the G37 projector looks good. Though I wish we could do something about the ebay light rings (either get rid of them all together, or do the umnitza LED rings in thier place.

No they won't, they are very similar but the retainer tab that locks in inplace is different. The bulb is the same though, why would you want to do that anyway, are you thinking of PnP from OEM to Ebay one? The ebay parking and turn signal merge into one connector since it goes straight to 00-01 main harness.

edit. That ebay halo rings are remoable with 2 screws. The Umnitza would be too big also I think since the diameter is smaller than OEM reflector. For mine, I'm going to change the LED to high power or replaced with CCFL instead.

I'm really contemplating the retro of ebay lights, but I can't stand the turn signal/parking lamp open reflector setup, prefer the clear lenses with the flutes in them. So I figure I'd try to reuse the OEM ones.

Dang it, my bad I'm such a slow poke. I thought you meant the harness. The OEM turn signal and parking lights are interchangeable, however I'm not sure about the lens. Looks like we the ebay lens are removable but not sure about the diameter ( I didn't have my OEM lens anymore, sold it). I would think that they are interchangable...

Got sidetrack playing with the RX330 non-AFS projectors.....If I can just mount my Selenoid assy in there, then I'll have Bi-X ( not as good as the tru Bi-X projector obviously, but it should be good enough....). I don't know.....I'm having relapse with RX projector obsessions. I wish the bracket isn't being made so I can change it.......

RX330 Non AFS projector with TSX-R lens. Low beam

What the high beam might look like

The worse beam pattern I've ever seen....

Today I said goodbye to my old setup the E46Bi-X. I traded it with a pair of Ebay projector style headlights + cash from a member here. After fixing few issues on the Ebay projectors lights (broken allignement pin, busted parking light bulb, and wiring) I fired it up. I've never own Ebay projector headlights before and I was very shocked to find out that the beam pattern was absolutely disgusting. I mean...how is this stamped DOT approved?? I've had Ebay OEM style headligth before and it was bad but not this bad. I don't have the H7/H1 HID bulb, otherwise I would fire it up. I bet it would be 10 times worse with HID in there. For those of you thinking of buying this kind of projector, please, I beg you please don't. Stay with OEM and put high quality halogen bulb, it will be much much better than this.

Ebay Projector low beam

Ebay Projector low beam + Valeo D2S retofit fog light.

I'm going to have to hurry up finish up my retro or at least put something better in this headlight before I go crazy driving around with this...

Let's do lt. I probably sell these 2 pairs that I have anyway. I enjoy the retrofitting process much more than the finish product. This being used headlight, I'm not going with full blown quads. My plan is to put decent 3" bi-x projector in the low beam and maybe halogen projector in the high depend on the budget. The other headlights got full quad bi-x.

I'm going to add additional shrouds to cover up the lens holder on the low beam. The CCFL/Angel Eyes will be removed or replaced.....Not sure what yet....

The high beam bracket however, didn't fit in the housing too well. Well it fits but by the the time I trim the outside there is no left meat anymore.

The G37 coupe projectors is just too tall to sit nicely in the housing. I thought about trimming it, but I'd rather not and use different low profile projector. So here comes the RX330 Non-AFS projector. Fits really nice in there without much trimming. I'm going to convert the RX330 into Bi-X by adding Mini H1 selenoid assy, it should come out nice!
Name: SAM_0433.jpg
Views: 211

I need to space the RX330 more (upward) to reduce the gap between the lens holder and housing shroud. This picture below is with both projectors in the housing.

Either I'm going to cut new high beam bracket or work with what I have.....

This project is going to take some time to complete. I haven't even mod the projectors the way I like it, it's raining and cold outside pretty much every freaking day. I want to add some LED in this headlights, not sure what. I'm a competle noob when it comes to LED. I thought about filling those turn signal with LED like TunerMax3000 did......

With the Bi-x low beam and halogen high beam projector setup, would the low beams (being Bi-x) operate in conjunction with the halogen high beams? By "inconjuction with" I mean does the low beam switch to a 'high beam mode' in addition to triggering the high beam projector?
