Metal Clanking Sound When Turning?? WTF Could This Be??

So I'm not really sure when it started because you cannot hear it with the windows up/radio on. So while driving today with the windows down, while turning, there is a loud clanking noise coming from the driver side wheel well. It does it when I turn both ways, doesn't matter or change the noise with a different direction. RPMS or speed make no difference and it doesn't do it at all while going straight. My first thought and a good sound comparison was a metal backing plate loose and clanking around, but the front brakes don't have backing plates so I ruled that out. I also looked all around the wheel/suspension gettup and didn't see anything peculiar or loose. Everything performance wise is factory on the car btw.

So what do you guys think?? Any thoughts of where to start at all? Thanks

Check your steering bump stops. Mine were missing when I bought the car and made a loud metal on metal noise when turning at full lock. Checking/replacing them is an easy 5 minute job.

It's not really like a clanking/clicking it's an clanking/metal grinding. How do I check a bad axle?

Could be your top strut mount too. Mine make clunking noises only while turning before I replaced it.

If it's a metal grinding it could possibly be the brake pad brackets. Those tend to almost grind/screech against the rotor when in drive due to seized pins on them. But you mentioned that it's only when turning, so like the previous post, it could be the top strut mounting bracket. If it's coming from the "inside" of your car, say in the cabin it's really noticeable, then most likely it is. It's a pretty simple process and shouldn't take a long time. Only thing is you'd need the alignment afterwards.

You might need cap stops. Worth checking if you haven't.
