Governor
Governor
So yesterday i had the privilege of maxing out my max. This was done in a private area out in the everglades. I did this once, about 2 years ago when all I had was an intake and exhaust. I hit roughly 140 before it would not go anymore. This time, I have 18's instead of 16's, a new transmission, nwp spacers and a block plate. Once i hit a little over 120, i guess the governor kicked in and the revs just kept bouncing back a little before redline. What is the cause of this? Is the governor related to the transmission in any way? Tire size? I did some research and there's nothing conclusive. 4at 2002. Thanks!
4AT has been said to have a soft limiter post 130. Never seen this. IIRC, there were a couple of members (Scottwax & GBAUER) with GPS and a track that recorded numbers higher than 120 in their stock ECU'd AT's.
Mine has seen 136-138 on the dyno (7100 in 3rd).
Depends on your overall tire diameter, they might be off.
Speedo is never really that accurate, just like the tach.
Does it really matter?

with your different wheels, is your speedo still accurate? Because I think with larger wheels, you're not turning axles as much for a given speed...therefore, the car thinks it's going slower than it really is.....so your car thinks it's 120 but really isnt?
Other than that, hell if I know. I do know that my old Pontiac had rev-limter on it...

Those standing runs are not cheap. Although I am sure they are cheaper than a speeding ticket at those speeds
. OP-May I ask where you did you top speed run? The alley, 27, Crome, just asking cause I can't find any road empty enough for me to do a 0 to 80 run to do some video. Not bashing. Lord knows I have shattered many a limit on the same roads I mentioned on my old CBR1000 back in the day. I am just curious.

If you keep the overall diameter the same, then it won't change.
Basically, something must be a miss on your car. Take it to a dyno, or hit the standing mile with GPS.
Otherwise, this thread will end.
Also, let ourselves not dumb ourselves down, but ...

Not even going to say anything more.

So whats the real deal here? is the Auto ecu responsible for the governed speed limit? If so, how was it that my original transmission could surpass this speed, and now this one has a limit? It really doesnt matter, but either way, im sure we'd all like to know..
If your AT is an SE, I'm pretty sure it's not.
