fasjhdgfasdfkasfhkjasgfjasgdfk Went to pull off the newspaper around the damage and saw the final product. Just not good. All I think it really did was change the color.
I think it's time to hand this off to a body shop. At this point I don't care, I'll pay anything short of probably 300 dollars to get this fixed. Obviously I hope it's not that much. It's bothering me way too much. I don't even care if it's half-assed and not color-matched, as long as it's filled in and smoothed out to be even with the rest of the body. I cannot stand having a chunk of flesh missing from my car.

From the pic I see, that rust is under the paint much farther than you chipped away. They'll have to strip about 12" farther than that in all directions, fix the damage, filler, bondo, sand, buff, primer, paint the whole quarter panel, clearcoat, wetsand, buff.
$300 would be a steal. At least it's black, that'll keep the cost down.

Getting a couple parts in. Master/Passenger switch done. I took the LCD screen/cover out because I want to re-do it, wasn't happy with it. One bit at a time. That audio unit is going to look freaking sick when the time comes.

I pulled the number out of my a$s. I have no idea what it's going to cost. Like not even the slightest ballpark clue. And I have a budget much larger than that but I'll get some estimates and see what happens. If it's going to be way up there then I'll see about grabbing some friends and bondo/sanding it DIY style.
Welp. ****. Thanks for the reality check. I'm getting way too worked up about this. The fact of the matter is there really is not much I can do about it except hope for a low repair cost.
Expect at least $300.

From now on, I'm buying all my auto cleaning supplies at Walmart. The trick is to walk directly to the Automotive section without looking at the trash in the aisles, the rusty shelves, or the trailer park zombies. If you can do that, then you're good to go.
I know how you feel Wax. As MINT as Rochester's car is, there is no stopping the rear fender rust. It's slowly starting to creep on me and there really isn't much you can do to stop it. It's sad but unfortunately it's the way it goes.
I would have it but i have to sell you the whole floor shifter for like $60 shipped.

Been subliminally telling you that for quite some time.

Not quite....

Not quite....
Dual mass. Awesome but heavy.
And Dyno on a CAST iron flywheel compared to a 14 lb fidanza would be the same.
Rotational weight change doesn't net actual HP gains, just speed gains.
This is the same reason putting lightweight wheels on makes no difference on a dyno WHP reading. It does make a signifigant difference, but doesn't actually produce HP numbers.

Not sure what to tell you, bud. Find a trusted body shop, I suppose.
Could be worse. Could be much, much worse. (Hi, Waxima.)
But one can find it's way in the box

A custom mount has to be made (Not hard either) if you don't want to chop of the 5mt chassis bracket and bolt in the 6mt mount.
That's not the hardest part of the swap..... it's the scariest yes... But not the hardest.

1. a gun can not jump up and just kill you
2. a gun can not be fired without intention(good)(bad)(mistake)
3. if you take guns from law abiding citizens crime with overtake the ability of law enforcement.
4. there is no such classification as assault weapon it is a term used to describe a weapon(long)or(hand) that has been used in a conflict.

But yeah, you've illustrated what I was saying, the rust comes from the inside out, you can't just cover it up, you have to eliminate the rust. Then treat the steel, then paint, then clearcoat then re-treat/oil spray if u want to stop it.
Sometimes you just have to go in ***** deep
Remove the newspaper and just go at it with a serious abrasive pad on a grinder
I am wrong!

You can fix it without replacement, you just have to go deep, and do it right, which is often the same amount work as a replacement panel.

If you have the time, DIY can't hurt. Worst case, you chew up a few $20's and learn something, it doesn't turn out, and you pay for someone to fix it and/or get a replacement quarter panel.

For the 6MT:
The mount is bolted to the Chassis.
The bracket is bolted to the tranny.
For every other car back in the day:
The bracket is tack welded to the chassis.
The mount bolts to the transmission.

Cutting a hole in the firewall took forever for me, took all night because the motor was in the car so I could not fit a sawzall in there.
About 3x re-inforced dremel cutting blades, a drill and 6hrs later... I had a lame *** hole big enough to feed the cables through, that was the hardest part IMO.
But if you're going from Auto to 6MT......
Shiiidddddd........ Easy as fck then, hole is already there.

One of the things I love about living in Oregon is the distinct lack of rust on our cars. Even my old 91 Ford which has crappy paint, has zero rust. Only coastal cars get rust in Oregon.
Comes right off soooo easy. Ask me how I know

I know right? The audio unit suffers from some glitching similar to the Bose unit did on the Maxi. So I have to tear it apart and see if I can fix it permanently before I do a full RGB conversion on it!
As for the Flywheel, rotational weight doesn't change engine output, I'd be blown away to find out different. It's a truth that I myself questioned quite a bit but enough research will lead to the inevitible fact that is just doesn't. And when you think about it, it makes perfect sense.
you're not changing intake/exhaust, fuel, really, ANYTHING that would actually change the numbers that the engine puts out.
Responsiveness, times, 'feel', etc, etc are all drastically changed, yes.
There IS one slight concession in this for a Flywheel on our cars, because they're DM, they could absorb a slight bit of power through the flow to the wheel. This i dunno about for sure but it's certainly possible in my book.
Enlighten me
Ahhh do work son!!!
Explain le dyno I posted
