are u sure the noise is actually dissapearing? or could it be hidden from the sound of the a/c fan turned on? its hard to clearly hear the noise, is it only when the ac is turned on? does it go away if u put econ mode on the climate control?
Well I think it still there when the AC is on but not sure and my climate control is a manual so it doesnt have an econ mode. well i'll try to get a better sound next and post it up again.
well is it there when just the heat is on? turning ur ac on kicks your secondary fan on, it might just be muffling the noise. if not, ^ he could very well be correct.
I was thinking of that too but do you know off hand that a 97 max a/c compressor would fit on the 2000 max since it's almost a similar engine? My old 97 max was hit on the driver side quarter panel while it was park and i was thinking about taking it off of that one and put it on the 2000 max.
Well, before you go through the trouble of changing it, because he's got a great point, if it's the clutch I would imagine the sound would go away when the compressor kicked on.
I would start the car, turn the AC on high, and then see if it still makes that noise when the compressor clutch disengages (compressor switches on). If the noise goes away, I would look straight at the clutch. If the noise continues, then I would look at the idler pulley (though it could definitely be something else).
In the case that you do need to replace the compressor, then the 97 will fit. Both compressors share the exact same part number.
