IACV can screw up and short circuit due to an internal coolant leak and fry your ecu. Can be avoided with coolant bypass though it has its downsides (hard start in cold weather).

The electric motor mounts can go bad and fry the ecu as well. Can be avoided by unplugging them. Though yours is a manual so you don't have electric mounts.

The back brake calipers suck and seize up fairly often. Not sure if you can really prevent that though.. just hope for the best.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Coming from a 4th gen, you're gonna have to learn how to make WIDE turns Forget about making a U-turn without two lanes and a wide shoulder...

Haha ok. Im new to these cars so it will take a lil getting used to im sure. I will be picking it up on the weekend. My 99 was my baby until a deer decided to jump in front of me and total the front of my car. Doesnt look totaled but there is too much damage under the hood. So my mechanic/dealer who sold me the 99 and my 97 previous cars let me do a trade in for the 2001. I will miss my 99 but maybe it was time for a 5th
gen. Here is a pic

The 5th gen looks good, man...get your headlights cleared out (3M headlight restoration kit) and a drop on her (I know you like 'em, seeing your 99) and she'll be good!

Yeah man it sucks seeig the 99 like that. I loved it so much. It had a to. Of **** done to it too.. Stillen catback, drilled slotted rotors, braided fuel lines, 1.5" drop on eibach springs, short throw shifter, nissan y pipe, aftermarket motor mounts, had a supercharger at one time but my mechanic had it takin out cause it didnt run right. Car was still fast tho. How do the 2001 maximas go compared to the 99? I know they have 30 more hp.. Yeah my 99 was a wierd blue lol almost gray. How much would it cost to ge the 01 lowered?

yup, that's Lakeshore blue. LOVE that color!

re: cost, no idea, but probably similar to your 99 was. the 00/01 have the DE-K motor, which gives better pull than stock, and as you already mentioned a bit more HP.

Interesting, I wonder if this applies to 5.5gens.

Oh and yes, the 5th gen makes WIDE turns. When lowered, it's even worse. I can't make 2 laners

Once I raced 99 5speed, and I was killing him on my 00 5speed, and I only had Injen CAI, and Y pipe with stock cat-back, and I think you can use your 4th gen parts for your 5th gen, like springs, y pipe, short shifter and even the mounts!

I also have a 2001 5speed and yes they are fun and fast but careful on some upgrades i had a 2000 auto , i added a intake and blew al my coil packs....but no probs with my 01... intakes are to expensive for this car and ive done a few ideas... heres the best "GAB" ghetto air box..... leave the stock box drill four holes on the top of the piece that holds the filtr n put in a stock k&n filter.... ive put an upper strut bar and it had helped a bit on the cornering... still need exhuast and to b lowered other hen that its just comstics... and hats however u want it done.

Yes there is something you should know. The volume buttons on the steering wheel will toy with your emotions and eventually drive you crazy to the point you will want to build a voodoo steering-wheel doll and stab the **** out of it in frustration.

Dont the wide turns only apply to the 5.5 gens with the bigger VQ, not the 00 and 01?

Also, electric motor mounts only applies to automatic maximas. 5-speeds are

Not had much luck...

I think I may have been unlucky, but I've one problem after another with mine. Most people on here have had fairly good experiences I think (did u see the guy with 400k?). I think my car was left neglected for a long time, the mileage is too low...
