upper pan install question

upper pan install question

ill be installing my pan tomorow and was wondring if its ok to use a lil RTV to stick the o-rings to the oil pump and block so they dont fall off during install ???

I used a dab of vaseline on each of them and didn't have any problems. I don't think RTV is a good idea.

Also another tip: Buy some long bolts with the same thread as the upper pan bolts. Grind the heads off and cut a slot in the end of each with a Dremel so you basically have two long screws without a head. Screw one into each side of the block and use them to guide the pan straight into place so you don't smear your RTV bead around. Once you have a few bolts tightened to hold the pan in place you can back out the screw/studs you made with a straight slot screwdriver and then continue to bolt up and torque the pan in place. Worked great for me.

Yes, the FSM shows RTV on the ends of the half moon gaskets. I put RTV across their entire length with no ill effect.
