I just finished reading all the threads that a search of this code found and i am very confused.
I have a 01 AE SE with cali spec.
Is it the o2 sensors or the cats. There seems to be three cats. some saychange the pre cat which i believe is 20802+A and 20900. Or do I change the main 20802 by itself . Others say change the o2 sensors. I pulled readings off my o2s does anyone know if they look corrrect?
Also my sel only seems to go on after the switch over from winter to summer gas. Does that make sense?

that is the precat code. Either ur precats are going out or you need to put non fowlers on the max.

The reason why i wonder if it is the precat/cat is because the code is very intermittent.I only get it after the switchover from winter to summer blend and only once in awhile. After I shut it off it can take a nice while before it goes back on. From reading all the posts here everyone who needed new cats had their light come back on within a very short time - less than an hour of driving - of turning it off.

I started getting this code 4-5 years ago. After turning off the CEL light it would come back on every 200 miles or so. Now it's every 5000 miles or so. Since I have 183K miles I'm not going to bother putting in a new pre-cat. Since it is cali-spec and I live in CA I would have to buy OEM for about $900 part alone. If I weren't in CA I'd put in a third party pre-cat (about $250) but I doubt it would pass the visual inspection in CA.
