5th Gen: What did you do to your 5th Gen today?

Well took my car for a test drive after the new brakes were installed and found out they didn't grab as well as the stock brakes. Hummmmmm. Anyways I did a hard stop from 65mph to about 5mph and smoke poorer out from the front brakes. Glazed them up. So guess I need new pads. Hope it didn't hurt the new drilled rotors.
I didn't know there was a 300 mile break in period for the brakes. Opps.
So I will be installing new pads today

Finally, Finally I get around to my bumper. So earlier this morning I finally get up and decide its time for them bondo patches to be gone. They've been on her for months maybe lol. I sanded and laid four coats of primer on her. I was hesitant at first because the city workers was cleaning up the streets blowing dust and debris everywhere but I went ahead and did it. There's no telling how long it'll take me to throw the paint on her
I'll keep ya updated

Oem double din adapter came it. Got the radio installed. Still need to hook up the seeing wheel control thing. Hope it will make the Indash computer work. Still waiting on the dark gray ac controller to come in.
Ordered the radiator. The old one is leaking a lot
Tell you what this car has cost me some money. I have only put about 500 miles on it and most of that was me bringing it home. Would be more miles but I have had to work on it since I got it. Hopefully this will be it for a while

So in the first few hours of 2014 my car was hit (and run) by a probably drunk driver. The damage wasn't too bad, but I did need a new headlight and to have the bumper strung up. The car was my girlfriend's at the time.
So the good news is there really aren't too many damaged bits under there. At first I wanted to see what parts I had to order, because it's about damn time I get that straightened out... y'know, puns and such aside... (I don't have a picture of how the bumper cover used to sit, but it was pretty lopsided)
So there's the real reason I did all this, because sometimes my headlights don't work on that side, and the headlights don't match, nor do the bulbs, and it looks bad, and I don't want to put a new headlight in and have it _also_ go bad after less than two years. I would have to straighten out/buy a new part to make sure my headlight mounts correctly. Personally, I think I'd be happy with Anzo Halos. For comparison, here's the factory/not hit side
Yeah, that all looks straighter... By the way, I didn't document this well, but I'd guess the Monro she took it to, where they patched this job up the first time, has a bucket of fasteners that should have really gone back on my car. One zip tie and two bolts, and no buttons at all on my bumper cover. (Buttons = those little plastic push-clippys)
I wonder why my fog lights don't work on this side?
Oh. While we're here, may as well check that corner marker lamp...
yikes... So I found a couple of bits of bracketry that aren't all the right shape, looks like at worst two pieces of steel, dunno what the part numbers could be, but I think in the end I strung it up a lot better (don't get your hopes up, it's still just zip ties, but at least that's the plural form) and I would bet with some screws and bolts holding things in, any new headlights would stay in good condition. So that's what I did on my 5th gen today.

not my max, but today went to look at a black 00, listed on craigslist cheap "for parts". no pics in the ad, he claimed the power steering needed to be replaced and it needed new exhaust- only 120k on the engine, new tires and interior and exterior were in good shape.
here i'm thinking i might be able to steal a clean 00 with low miles and fix it up with a new high pressure hose and exhaust. dealbreaker for me was that it ended up being a rusted turd. rust at all the wheel wells, under the car, and radiator support completely gone. tried to take a pic:
i passed on the deal

Yeah, that radiator support is gone, haha. I think at this point, finding a Max without some of this rust is going to be almost impossible to find. I think the only people who stick around long enough to actually fix the radiator support are enthusiasts. No one but enthusiasts will touch the wheel wells. My wells are starting to show rust again, so I might just take it back to the body shop again for a full rebuild on both sides. They did a good job the first time, and an awesome job on my rad support.
In other news, I finally finished my audio setup, including a Nexus 7 headunit. Mounted my amps on a fitting sub box for the Max, and lightly sound dampened and attempted rattle proofing my car. Here's a picture of the tablet, I will share more of the other stuff when I get a new phone.
Since I installed this, I kinda revamped the way the tablet sits in the dash. The tablet is super hard to fit since the cable for it gets in the way on the side, so it has to sit back a little bit, and I really hard to break parts of the vent bezel to get it to work. Just did a lot of super glue and gorilla tape and it worked like a charm.

Sure, I will take some pictures on my way to work since I got a new phone today. I'll also write up what I used. I don't want to take the vent/tablet out again, since that usually breaks the display.

That tablet is pretty cool!
Do you just tether to your phone's internet and do whatever?
Wish There was room for a bigger tablet, or a touch screen.
Get rid of the hvac buttons and
get them working through the touchscreen via a carputer.
Have allot of room then.

Honestly, the size does really well. I watch movies and play games on it with a gamecube plug in I have in back that comes out under the passenger's side of the dash. It gets internet via wifi hotspot from my phone, so no cables necessary. I wanted to put the steering wheel controls in, but I don't have a laptop, so I can't program it yet, but I have the usb converter thing.

if you want your own stuff i suggest a bluetooth elm/odb2 that you can connect to your phone w/ cargaugepro or torque apps. cheap but not free

I support this response, for I have a bluetooth elm/obd2 with the cargaugepro app

FINALLY
was missing the belt tensioner bolt that adjust where the idler pulley sits before you tighten it down.... couldnt find it at the wrecker, so i got one off of ebay.
finally today i got my car lifted and had it installed
no more squeaking on start up, and no more a/c squeak!!!!!!!! FEK ya
Remaining:
Clutch starting to slip
engine torque issue once in a while below 4k rpm (i press hard down and the engine doesnt really try harder), only happens once in a while tho, other times it runs perfect...so i think its a sensor?? MAF dirty??
and RIMS!! soon
