Clunking vibration from the drive shaft?
Hi
I previously had a 1999 Maxima SE and about every 6 months a clunking vibration through the steering wheel would appear, more noticeably when crossing railroad tracks or bumps in the road.
My previous mechanic would verify first that all is solid in the direction area, and if so, proceed to as best as I can explain it, "grease between the drive shaft and the cover" and the noise would go away.
I've owned a 2001 Maxima SE for about 2 years now (has 65000 miles on it) and the same clunking noise can be felt in the steering wheel.
Can anyone confirm if this is something they've encountered before in the 5th generation Maxima and how to fix it?
Thanks
Mike

I had a similar noise and it ended up being by lower control arm bushings were worn out allowing movement and causing my clunk. Also my front sway bar end links were worn out and replaced those at the same time but to be honest not sure which one of the 2 issues caused the noise to stop.
But everything is good to go after that.
