Is It Bad To Drive Without Calibrated TPS?

I mean, this is probably a stupid question, but how much damage could it actually cause? I have a 2001 Maxima SE Automatic. I notice that when I drive, my engine seems to be at a steady 1600RPM without touching the gas pedal, so my car can reach about 30mph without even touching the pedal. I have a bad ECM + IAC Valve + P0505 bull**** and it'll be a while to get it fixed. I know that the TPS sends signals to the TCM telling your transmission to...well...vroom vroom. But I cannot calibrate it correctly so when I drive, my transmission seems to be all over the place. It feels like it's jumping from 1st gear to 4th back to 2nd to 5th back to 1st without even touching the pedal. It gets me to work and back (about 2 minutes away from home) but would it be safe to take it on any longer trips? I have a friend who lives 10 minutes away, my girlfriend who lives 15, etc. My car hasn't stalled yet, but my engine seems to be all over the place, with my RPMs sometimes peaking at 3500 without even touching the pedal.

Will this cause severe transmission problems? Could I burn out the TCM? I'd like to know because it might be a while before I'm able to get everything squared away.

I hear from other car owners that it's better to drive with the TPS unplugged in this case. Would you guys recommend this?
